Metroid Prime: Valhalla
A Science Fiction RP in the Metorid Prime Universe In the wake of the Pirate activities surrounding various recent incidents, the Federation has tasked Samus to donate her time and energy, as she can, to helping them create a strike team to deal with mounting Space Pirate Activites. To this end, she has volunteered her suit and her knowlede of it's technology to the scientiests to assist them in the creation of armoured combat suits to deal with the Rising Pirate Threat. Dubbed "Project Valkyrie", the scientist managed to craft limited production models of the suits, and even craft some updated and improved weaponry. However, there are several "black box" segments of her suit that they are unable to fathom the full function of, and as a result the subsequent mass productions models, still really prototypes at the moment, fail to live up to the splendor of the original. In fact, despite the new developments and upgrades they create, Samus's suit seems to be able to incorperate them with surprising ease, and shows no upper limit to it's learning and absorbtion capicity. Only just finished training and testing, the suits and their wearers are about to be given thier first full combat trial. The rogue celestial body, codenamed NM-8821 "Fafnir", esentially a meteorite, but so large it has it's own weather systems, has been revealed to contain a hight concentration of Space Priate activitiy. It would have continued to go un-noticed, save for the increased degree of pirate activity in the area. Something big is going on, something that requires a large ammount of supplies and manpower. Your mission, Codename "Sigurd", is to infiltrate the pirates hold abord the starship "Gram", recon thier operation, and neutralize the space pirate presence. Godspeed. Basic Suit Paramaters: Suit Class: Varia (You are resistant to High heat, but not superhot temps like standing in lava. You are protected form most simple acids, poisons, and light corosives, but not fully from acidic attacks from enemies. You can survive underwater, but at decreased effeciency). Weapons: Blaster: You come with the regular Blaster system for your Arm cannon. Missles: A misnomer, really, since it's not a material missle, but a concentrated concussive blast of energy. Bomb: Used when in Morphball form, this is a concentrated energy charge, similar to the missle, but more powerful. Supermissle: This is a material missle, and it contains a very powerful concussive warhead designed to crack open solid objects and bash down walls. You can carry only one supermissle, contained safely in storage compartment in your suit's hip. Powerbomb: This bomb, a material explosive device, has a much higher yield than even teh supermissle, and is in fact a very small nuke with only about a half-grain of fusionable matter. The explosive charge can blast away large portions of walls, and shatter many barriers. You can carry only one, secreted away in a special hidden compartment in your suit's hip. Suit Equipment:Your suit is equiped with defensive shielding that recharges over time and can be restored at any location with a high-energy transfer conduit. It has basic manuvering jets which allow you to make dramatic leaps and ariel movment, and keep you centered and settled in lowgravity enviroments. You are also equiped with the following equipment modifiers: Morphball: This advancement, one the most tested varients of the suit capabilities, took the longest to figure out. In fact, the scientists didn't actually 'figure it out', they really just copied the existing black-box systems for the morphball component, and it seemed to work. The current iteration is completely safe and allows your suit to fold up into a small, moble sphere less than 1/3 the overall size of the original to pass thorugh small openings. Powergrip: A recent inovation, this system improves the suit with advanced myomer systems and an advanced polymer alloy fingergrip to give you the power to catch and support the weight of your suit with only your dexterous actuator system. (ie "hand"). Visor: Your suits are equiped with a wide variety of sensors and input analysis systems to aid in determining your best course of action, and provide information for combat, navigation, exploration, and other factors. Your suits come equiped with the following systems: Combat Visor: This system uses visual data to warn you of danger, incoming fire, and enemy locations and proximity. It also analyses enemy movements and actions and provides an aiming aid to help guide your attacks to improve accuracy and minimize friendly fire incidents. Scan Visor: This system utilized data streams, magnetic resonance imaging, and an etherwave access to the Universal Libraries Lexicon to access, analyse, and report informatoin on items of import in the environment, including enemies, thier strengths and weaknesses, the environment and it's composition, etc. This is the basic suit equipment. You will be able to customize your suit with a some of the following equipment(the number in paranthesis sets up how many choices you can take) : Alternate Beams (2): These are the alternate beam types you can choose from, including the standard and the new: Wavebeam: This beam uses elecromagnetic energy to propell a concentrated ion blast at enemies. This blast can stun mechanical enemies, disable magnetic/electric enemies, and activate electrical systems. Icebeam: This blast of energy supresses molecular movment, causing the subject to radically change temperature, eventually freezing them. Plasmabeam: This blast of ultra-hot matter can incenerate enemies with a touch, searing thier bodies into nothingness. It's only weakness is it's slow fireing rate. Particlebeam: This concentrated blast of electromagnetically accelerated particles is a finely shaped, longrange beam. What it lacks in speed and girth, however, it makes up for in penetrating power, as it can punch through many armour types and cut deep into even metal and stone. Gravitybeam: Modified from the Grapple, the gravity beam is an offensive weapon. It fires a powerful burst of gravity that can crush opponents in place, or fling them aside and into walls and ceildings. It can also be used at a lower setting as a kind of grapple beam, but it lacks the Grapple's fine control and longevity, only allowing enough to draw the suit up a fairly short distance before the beams power fades. Lancerbeam: This concentrated weapon is an electromagnetic field suffused with highenergy mix of photons, plasma, and other particle matter. The result is a short, five foot 'blade' that can cut thorugh just about anything. Beam Modifier(1): These are special equipment that modify the way in which the normal beam cannons work. Charger: This attachment adds a capicator system to your beam cannon that allows you to cycle up your attack, giving you a concentrated blast from your cannon. **the Lancerbeam merely turns out wider and stronger with this attached. Spliter: This attachment halves the fireing rate of your beam system, but it's array of charged capictors and emmiter arrays allow your beamcannon to release a spray of energy. This attack shortes the effective range considerablly, but it gives you an edge in dealing with swarming and fast moving close range opponents. **The Lancerbeam becomes a wide, fanlike spread of energy with this attackment. Misslecharger: This attack supercharges your missles with energy from your beamcannon, turning them into charged, highpowered projectiles enpowered with the energy of your attacks. **The Lancerbeam simply becomes a powerful vector that delivers the missleblast INTO the opponent it's thrust into. Lockon: This attachment turns your cannon into an electromagnetic channel that directs charges of energy directly into your opponent, regardless of thier movement. This attack is hard to get fully locked, but it's abilty to channel energy directly into an opponent can help defeat a particularlly mobile enemy. **The Lancerbeam, with this equiped, becomes long, thin whip of energy that can wrap around enemies, delivering damage. Suit Equipment(1): These are special equipment for your suits that can assist you in exploring the interior of Fafnir. Dash: This gives you a few moments of enhanced speed, allowing you to leap chasms, dodge fire, and tackle your way through cetain obstacles. Spidertouch: This electromagnetic system allows you, in morphball form, to cling to metalic surfaces to move around. Jumpboost: This series of enhnaced thrusters gives you an improved distance for your jumps, giving you short boosts of near-flight. Grapple: This system creates a conduit of energy that can be used to lift, swing, and support your suit and others. The beam is fairly short, but can be used to slingshot yourself across chasms and climb distances. Visor(1): These are the alternate visor modes that are available to you to choose. You can have one of the following: Thermographic: Using infrared imaging and thermal diferentiation this visor mode can help compensate for dark environments and blinding weather conditions by pinpointing enemies and other important factors. x-Ray: Using a modified x-ray radiation emiter, the x-Ray visor gives you a detailed enviromental scan, which can reveal cloaked or hidden opponents, disguised environmental features, or other factors. It's only drawback is it's fairly short visible distance. Ok, I'll post character sheets and your squad's leader (no I won't be playing Samus) later, since this thing is limiting how much I can post at once. |
Wait, so we're all just a bunch of Samus clones? Why not just send Samus, she can do it alone ayway...I mean, if we had more customization maybe? Like, similar technology, just a different way to do it?
|
Well, yes technically you could just send Samus in alone to do it. But that would be very difficult to roleplay... the idea was to create a similar theme, but encourage teamwork and co-operation to complete objectives... I mean, the point of the games was to play as Samus, and get to use the nifty suit and all it's gadgets. I suppose I was underestimating my playerbase to assume that there wouldn't be those who want more... Actually, truth be told, I'm somthing of a control monger and detail whore, so I should try to dail that back a bit for the RP. (the origonal post has to be cut down by almost half to fit).
So, if you want some flexibility, you can design something else, rather than just the standard suits, but It should fall roughly in line with the levels of power from the Metroid Prime games. And nothing you create should overly surpass what's presented for the standard suits... |
I think this does look interesting. I was a bit apphrensive about the idea of using something like Samus' powersuit but then I remembered that the Space Pirates had actually had some success in duplicating it with their Elite Pirates. Except for the Morph Ball, heh. I can be a bit of a fluff nazi at times. I'd like to join, it'll take me a little while to concoct a character though.

Actually I made mention of that of that in the original post I put up... had to be edited out.

Anyone who wishes to play, make sure to include the following in your character, when you post it: Name: Your character's name, and a nickname/callsign if you wish Physical Description: what your character looks like History: Your background Personality: What your character acts like Equipment: What are you using for the rp. Feel free to use the modified suits, if you wish, or something else as long it's inline with the power levels of Metriod Prime. |
So would something like this work?
Name: Job Jobson (Callsign: Duelshot) Physical Description: Wears a long trenchcoat and cowboy hat. Tanned face and body, has two holsters on his waist. History: Job was trained as a normal soldier, but he strove to be something different, something like the westerns he loved to watch. When the call came out to use modified technology of the legendary Samus, he signed up, but struck a deal with one of the scientists to have a set of 'cooler' equipment. Personality: He tries to emulate the likes of Billy the Kid and Wyatt Earp, but ends up acting like an idiot when he does that to the extreme. Hes settled on talking in a gruff voice, cracking jokes in the face of danger, and calling out anyone who looks at him wrong. Equipment: He prefers to use the offensive capabilities of the suit in two custom handguns. Although they fit snugly into the side-holsters, and look like two normal six-shooters at first, the barrels extend to about the lenght of his forearm. They have multiple firing modes, offering concussion shots, machine-auto fire, and special add-ons, like a net firer and grappling hook. His boots have small rocket boosters that allow him to jump farther, run faster, etc. His suit/coat is made to withstand most small arms blasts, and if needed his hat can mold into a gasmask/visor. |
That's a bit far afield of the idea I had in mind... aside, from the fact that you will probalby need self contained lifesupport (a la space suits) for at least several large portions of the mission.. But, if it's overlayed as armour with a coat and hat on top, I could possibly see it working...
|
Uh, sure, I'll go with the overlaid thing.
Does Samus really have to be so active in this. I like the seperate task force idea, but to throw Samus is there seems so...fan-ficcy. |
Um, do I really want to know how a hat can turn into a visor? I think there will be some moving around in vacuum so at the very least some sort of rebreather would be needed.
I agree that having Samus around isn't the best idea. Entire planets have burned in her wake after all. As a side note, I'm pretty sure that the normal missiles are in fact missiles. Don't ask me how several hundred of them fit into there though. |
Sorry, that was something else that was cut off in the inital post... I had to mangle it to make the important parts fit... or what I thought were the important parts... stupid 10k character limit...
Samus isn't going to be part of the actual roleplay. You're going in under the command of another character, Samus is elsewhere at the moment, and she's not even in direct command of the group. And, technically, her missles in the game were probably 'real' missles(in the Nes, Snes, and GB games they are, though the look energylike in the Prime games). But for the purposes of the roleplay, I'm taking some liscense. We're not going to be grabbing glowing icons from dead enemies to power our equipment either. That's a silly as eating a roast chicken that popped up out of a gang member you just beat down. Unit Commander/My character Name: Darom Ratheson Description: About 6'4", 220lbs, Ratheson was special forces for a long time before turning bounty hunter. With the growing number of space pirate incursions, bounty hunting soon became so much more profitable in just the five years he'd been working it than his entire military career had been. He'd known of Samus Aran only by reputation, an to say he was flatered by her invitation to join this group was an understatment. He might have reconsidered had he known just how difficult it was going to be, but now fully trianed and ready to drop with the remainder of his team, he was ready to prove she hadn't made a mistake. Personality: Gruff and cynical, Ratheson had lost most of his taste for command after beoming a bounty hunter. As such, as long as he has his men's respect, regardless of thier appearent conduct, he dosent' stickle for protocol. But he does demand obedience, and unless you can come up with a better option, you'd better jump when he says jump. He's cautious, but not cowardly, and he takes care to select the best strategy he can before comiting to combat. Background: Former Federation Special Forces, he's been part of covert infiltration operations for years, making him ideally suited to leading this particular strikeforce. He was married, but is now divorced, a side effect of his leaving the special forces. He's workded hard with Samus, using her experience and techniques to teach his charges the best ways to ustilize thier suits and take advantage of the various abilities available to them. Suit: Blue detail on Red and Yellow paintscheme. Powerweapons: 1 Supermissle, 1 Powerbomb Beams: Plasma, Gravity Beam Mod: Charger Equipment: Jumpboost Visor: Thermographic |
