The Theatre Thread
What are your favorite plays/musicals/operas? Are you involved with theater? What do you highly recomend people to go see?
There's no culture in this forum! Go to the theater! Tell us about it! Sorry to sound fanatic about it but...well...I am. I've been teching shows since highschool and have worked all around and on the stage (even have aspirations for a Tony). I'm hoping that there's at least a handful of you out there that share my passion for the show. Remember: Techies practice safe sets and do it in the dark. Oh! my favorites: Opera: Pirates of Penz(s)ance -G & S Play: Rumors - Niel Simon Musical: toss up between five, but at the moment The Mystery of Edwin Drood |
But Shenadoah Shakespeare Express do it with the lights on!
Anyways, best play ever, no matter what anyone else says: Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead As for the opera, I'll go with something that not fit quite right in there and say "Tommy" by The Who. I haven't seen any really good musicals yet, so I won't recommend any. |
I don't get to see much...but my favorite play of all time has to be "Much Ado about Nothing".
That play is so freakin' awesome! Beatrice is my favorite character out of all of them! Favorite line has to be "You are duller than a great thaw." -Benedict ^_^ |
I haven't seen many plays either, myself, but I'd have to say, of the ones that I have seen, "A Midsummer Night's Dream" is my favorite one.
|
Not sure about plays... It depends on what I saw last
Operas: Don Giovanni- W. Mozart. The. Perfect. Opera. Musicals: Sweeny Todd- S. Sondheim. Who doesn't love a musical that involves murderous barbers and canabalism? |
Plays: much ado about nothing
Musicals: Grease (proabably cause I was in it at the time) |
Yes, ADO is my favorite S. comedy (followed closely by 12th night), but I'll take a random guess and say you only saw them for a class or something.
If you need to see more musicals: Into the Woods (a spoof/mix of fairytales) Avenue Q (puppets! Sesame Street on crack) Tommy (anything that's called the "rock opera" is worth seeing) The Mystery of Edwin Drood (you pick the ending, literally) Little Shop of Horrors (classic) Phantom of the Opera (again, classic) Les Miserables (ditto) that should be good enough for now. that and my bagel's done. |
oh, and techies may do it in the dark, but pit musicians do it out of sight where everyone can hear us.
|
How could I have forgotten about Little Shop of Horrors! What is wrong with me?
Also, I've wanted to see avenue Q for a while. Probably won't be able to, seeing as how I'm pretty far away from anything. |
Little Shop is fun for the simple reason that it is exactly three times smarter than it has any right to be.
