Presidential Nominations: Your Choice
If you could nominate a candidate(s) for the 2008 election, from any party, who would they be and why? Make sure your candidate(s) are logistically possible. (please, no stupid or improbable nominations)
i bet Rudy Giuliani would make a good candidate for the republicans (i know Cheney said he wasn't interested). I hear a lot of talk about hillary in 08, and i also hear Edwards is going to go for it.
I heard Guiliani was being considered for attourney general, although that would not affect whether he'd be able to run or not in 4 years, because the Bush administration would have expired by then either way.
I dont think he'll be the AG but ive heard of him as a possible candidate also. Though at this point, its all wild speculation.
one interesting suggestion was arnold. he is the only liberal republican who could get the nomination. and The Senate Judiciary Committee held hearings in October on the "natural-born" requirement of the U.S. Constitution. I dont think McCain would run, he is getting fairly old, and he just doesnt look like he has the energy anymore. The thing about Hilary though, is that she could face a tough senate battle in 06 if Pataki or Guilliani run. They could both potentially beat her, which would kill her chances. However, Pataki probably wont run since senator would be somewhat of a step down from Gov. of NY. and Guiliani might not run if he's really thinking about president. and do go read this, How Hilary Won the Election of 2008 and 2012 |
I don't know, it seems to me that that all the critisism directed at Guliani while he was mayor of N.Y. has somehow vanished in the past couple of years, and now that he's "up for grabs" so to speak, he's becoming immensly popular again. Heck, many people agree that his speech during the the Republican convention and his support of Bush throughout the campaign was one of the key factors in Bush getting re-elected this year.
I can agree there, and think he definitely could win if he ran.
I think Colin Powell would make a good nominee. He has plenty of leadership experience, and I think he could win if he wanted the job.
I don't know...Gore was vice to Clinton, and he lost, and history tends to repeat itself...also, colin powell is/was still part of the controversial Bush administration, and if Guliani or Hillary run, he'd probably get beat out. Also, the whole gay daughter issue ensures his loss of most potential democratic votes (please, let's not get into a discussion about gay rights right now).
um, colon power is the secretary of state, not the vice president, thats dick cheney. and he's said he's not running in 08. Although, a Cheney/Lieberman ticket would be cool.
and why would him having a gay daughter lose democratic votes? i dont think that would be true even if you meant republican votes. |
Oh crud, I keep mixing up Powell and Cheney. You'll have to pardon me for my inabillity to get names right. And the reason he'd lose democratic votes is that he has a gay daughter, yet he is against, or at least his administration is against, gay rights. Cheney/Lieberman...now that's an interesting match up...
