XBox Live question
What ports on your firewall/router must be open in order to get Live updates.
Welcome to the videogame forum!
Wait, nevermind. Moving. |
I'm not sure at all what has to be open for ya there, Bob. So, that leaves you with a few options unless someone on the forums knows and posts such knowledge here. Either turn off the firewall altogether (but that really defeats the purpose of having one), or look it up on Microsoft's website. It SHOULD be there. Search around on everything, particularly the Xbox sections. It used to have a ton of information on what to do with different settings, etc, for live updates.

I'm actually on a college T1 line, and it's their firewall, so I can't shut the entire thing down. But, the techs here said they would be more than happy to open ports for gamers.
Ooooh, T1...NICE! Hmm...Definitely check out the microsoft website, or call their customer service or whichever and see if they can get you the information that you seek.
You know what, at my college, you can plug right into the network and connect to other people in the college by the system link option and you don't even need to be on Live.
You should try that. |
I know about that already. It's awesome. It's like one giant hub. But, what I need the port open for is when I actually want to access Live and get updates.
Ok. I don't own an X-Box or know anything about it, but I've seen my friends doing that I thought I'd suggest it.
I agree with Tobias. Contact Microsoft and see what they say. Check the support site for Live and Microsoft.com for the answers you seek.
I don't think you need to turn off any firewalls, and if your using a router it should work. If you can use the router to connect multiple XBoxes (which I have done) then the same could be done for Xbox Live.
