Author Greatness

Ok, after I roasted Aeria, I said that Douglas Adams was a god, above Pterry (Terry Pratchett people, keep up) among others. Well, Newb responded thusly

if you want to start a "which author is the best" thread in order to settle this once and for all, do so, otherwise, I will assume that you agree with me.

Feel free to quote this pm in the thread should you decide to start it

Now, I strongly disagree. Pterry is good, a great and witty author and man, but to beat Adams? Madness, complete and utter. I haven't had the chance to pick up his newest work, but in no way can it compare to, let alone beat, Douglas. Complete lunacy I say.

What say the public?

I chose other, because I have yet to read either of the authors. Or really... anything.

I'm going to have to say that out of the genre, I prefer Douglas Adams to Pratchett. I never was a huge discworld fan. I mean, yes, the writing is great. It's just not as appealing to me as Douglas Adams.

I have to go with Douglass Adams... I mean, 42... it's so simple. And I never really did like Diskworld... never could understand why... though... I was obsessed with Good Omens for a while and I think he helped write that or something... eh, whatever.

I love Adams and I like Pratchet, but I don't think I could ever choose. There is also a special place in my heart for Edwin A. Abbott's Flatland because it changes the way you think and, at 120+ years old, it is by every sense of the word a classic.

He co-wrote it, that's more than just "helped"

[edit]
oh well, now that brian is on the list he is sure to win

[edit=2]
also, that's not a douglas adams quote in your sig, title, and location, think about the mixed signals you're sending here, saying you like adams more than the two people who cowrote the book you quote in your sig? sheer, utter madness

Yes, I guess Brian does deserve to be on the list (although I have yet to read Nuklear World) although now the results will be slightly...tainted I guess.

And just because he's in my profile stuff doesn't mean he's my favorite. I just finished Good Omens (I'd heard good things but never found a copy), so I'm naturally going to go with whats in my head recently. You probably also don't remember that I change my sig and stuff about once a week, depending on if something strikes me as funny (I'm thinking Dead Like Me theme coming up)

I added Brian, because I felt like voting for him. So there. Nuklear Age is extremely well done for a first book, in my, ever so hubris filled, opinion, and I see him only improving with time.

Age. It's called "Nuklear Age".

Voting for "Other", as I've read nothing from the authors listed.
Frank Herbert: The Dune series.

"Oh no, not again."
