Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy teaser

You need DivX installed to view it, or else you only get the background music. It just got me even more excited for it. I heard that filming's officially wrapped, so we'll see what happens.

Thoughts on the trailer?

I personally get scared when a trailer gets overly stylized for a movie I would like to watch. While orchestrael music, a shocking intro, and pretty graphics do add alot to the awe factor, they leave you questioning what the actual movie looks like.

Still, It'd be pretty hard for anyone to screw up something like The Hitchhiker's Guide, but ever since Planet of the Apes with Marky Mark... (shudder).

I can't wait to see it. They better not screw it up, or heads will roll. Or I'll just complain and not actually do anything. Probably the latter, honestly.

Some concept art.

I can deal with Marvin there... he looks rather sleek, even if it's NOTHING like I imagined him. I always thought he was a bit bigger and taller than an average human, and just generally ugly looking, so it's a bit weird seeing him like that. The Heart of Gold though... ugh, it's an absolute abomination. It's NOT supposed to look like the freaking Death Star.

Man, it will be hard to dress up like Marvin at the premiere. But hey, did you see Marvin on the BBC HHGttG mini-series? That thing was freaking brilliant.

Mashirosen 11-18-2004 02:18 AM

I really like the Deep Thought painting, but does Marvin seem a little too cute and iMac-y to anyone else?

Actually, the teaser seems that way too -- Brian called it "too precious". I dunno, waiting for a full theatrical trailer to have an opinion one way or the other. If it sucks, the books will still be there, after all. :)

Yeah, I always pictured Marvin closer to Robo in CT. He doesn't look as depressed as he should.

I couldn't watch the trailer though. Damn the Mac!

Deathosaurus Wrecks 11-18-2004 05:51 AM

aw, nothing new. thought they might have a good and proper trailer out, but i guess not.

dono whats up with those concept drawings though; the Heart of Gold is supposed to look like a tennis shoe, not a globe. however Marvin looks fine to me...

h4x.m4g3 11-18-2004 11:23 AM

YEah the heart of gold was suppose to a giant metal tennis shoe, haven't watched the trailer yet but is it different from the one that came out last year?

AerodynamicHair 11-18-2004 01:11 PM

I never pictured Marvin looking like that, and I don't know if I really like it. I always kinda visualized him as kind of a tall, skinny, lanky tin-can kind of robot, not a small, cute, chubby i-pod that looks a bit down-trodden. The heart of gold, on the otherhand, I kind of like. It's got a weird kind of look that I think can fit.

Marvin immediately reminded me of the drawing style of Roman Dirge and the like, which considering Dirge doesn't actually do science fiction is no small feat. Dirge, in case you didn't know, makes more or less (and in lack of a better word) your common goth comic; in that light of course, the design is pure genius.

In fact...

... and does anyone else think that in the picture where he's just standing in the desert he lacks a teddy bear?
