U.S. May Have 2nd Case of Mad Cow Disease
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?p...klVy0&refer=us
Well, maybe this will get the beef industry to start taking up some of the suggestions that were made after the last case. Then again, what with the lobbists having near 100% control over the US, for some reason I doubt we'll see any changes. SW KC |
Yep. Mad cow is back. You know if there isn't any good stuff about terrorists or the war in Iraq, this is going to get splattered all over the news. I can't wait to see the fancy graphics with the cows and the red alarming letters "Mad Cow II; the Revenge."
In essence, I pretty much agree with SW KC here. We screwed up with how we handled things, we let the industry have its way, and now both us and the industry are going to suffer in the long run. |
Well at least now they’ll be forced to accept Canadian beef. Or maybe they’ll just find another reason to renege on international agreements.

sweet. cheep burgers!
|
And you're more than welcome to all of them Zeth.
Me? I think I'll be switching over to 100% turkey burgers. SW |
Mmm, I love my chickenburgers.
I find the irony in it that when they banned Canadian beef, they STILL won't let it in, but when people ban the US's beef, it's like the teenager pleading with his parents to let him back into the house. Or something. |
I read somewhere that the pathogens that cause bovine spongiform encephalopathy were different from those that cause spongiform encephalopathy in humans. Its just that its so rare in humans (a grand total of 138 deaths form it, right?) that they haven’t been able to study it enough and can't say that eating mad cow meat WON'T cause it in humans, since the pathogens are related.
But regardless, even if eating mad cow meat DID rot my brain, the chances of actually getting a chunk of mad cow meat is pretty low. Climbing into my car is more dangerous then eating meat. so yeah, "sweet. cheep burgers!" |
If they don't have enough evidence to prove that mad cow disease doesn't cause the same disease in humans, and the world immediatly becomes paranoid by this inabillity to disprove something, couldn't I just say that we don't have enough evidence to disprove the skewed theory that, say, giant squids are really alien creatures from another dimension? And, if a mad cow disease is any barometer on the issue, wouldn't the world prepare for a hostile takeover by alien squids from alternate realities?

well, there is little evidence that proves a link between eating mad cow meat and getting sick.
But I think it IS prudent to NOT eat mad cow meat, if it can be avoided. We really don't want to kill enough people just so we can get a big enough test sample. Besides, the practices that help spread mad cow disease (namely feeding dead cows and manure to cows) also helps the spread of other pathogens, like E.Coli O157:H7, which kills and hospitalize more people each year then 'Mad Cow' ever has. So the hysteria about Mad Cow maybe be a weeee bit misplaced. but the solution for this near non-existent problem is a good solution for other problems as well. PS: my girlfriend lived in England around 90-93, so she's not allowed to give blood in the states for fear of spreading mad cow. |
Don't you people see?! This is all a ploy. Yes! Just a ploy! To divert the gentiles away from our holy hamburger! The mad-cow disease is the anti-burger! Repent! Turn your eyes from those lies! It is a plot divised by the bagel cult! They want you to join them! Don't listen to those freaks with holes!
