Things that make you stop and go "Whoa."
On Dec 3rd, the day I graduate and enter the Fleet Marine Force, it'll have been a year since I put my name on the dotted line saying I wanted to become a Marine. And also, a few of my biggest supporters came from here, and there's a chance I might never meet them in RL.

I actually had a moment like that on Monday, I think it was.
I was driving home from school. The school I go to is in the middle of a neighbor hood, and as such there are many intersections and stop signs. Anyway, I was driving home, and a woman in a white car just totally blows past a stop sign in the intersection in front of me. Hardly even slowed down to take the turn. She's looking at me like I'm an idiot for being in her way. After I get down yelling at her, from the safety of my car, it hits me: What if I had left school a few seconds sooner? Was going a little faster? Five seconds seperated me from yelling at her for ignoring a stop sign to having her plow into the side of my car. So, yeah, that made me stop and think for a second. |
Well, not really that important for me...
One afternoon, while I was walking to one of my classes, a bee flew out of the bushes and just slapped me in the face. It didn't sting me, it didn't fly around me, it just flew straight into me and hit me in the face. After the strike, it kind of fluttered down a little bit, regained its balance, and just flew off. I walked off with only one thought: "Did a bee just slap me in the face? What the hell?" Just a minute later, I was walking underneath an acorn tree and I saw one of the acorns fall right in front of me. I thought "Wow, that would be kind of odd if I was walking underneath the tree and an acorn hit me." Just as I completed that thought, an acorn fell from the tree and hit me in the back of the neck. I thought someone had thrown something at me, trying to get my attention, but no one was around. Only thought: "Did an acorn just hit me? What the hell?" Nature is after me. I know it. |
Yeah, I've got one.
When I was five, I was being an idiot and climbing the cherry tree in my backyard, then jumpin' out of it for fun. At one point, while I was up near the top of the tree, I slipped and started falling. If I had kept falling, never stopped, I would have landed on my head or neck. But there were different plans for me, I guess. About 3/4 of the way down, My shorts caught onto a tiny little twig. I hung there for what seemed to be a couple seconds, then the twig snapped. I was looking towards the ground by this time, and I put my hand out in front of me. I broke my wrist, but looking at it now, I realize how lucky I was. It could have been a lot worse. |
Congratulations Flarecobra. Did you go through Parris or San Diego? What is your MOS?
0311 is where it is at. |
I've a few of thos moments but one that really sticks out is this...
I used to work overnight in a grocery store in dairy/frozen, so one particular night I'm stocking (read filling) the shelves in frozen when I get this really weird feeling someone is right next to me. So I look to my left at the long row of closed freezer doors when every door in the row opens about 2 inches and then closes in a kinda ripple starting with the first door. Then one door opened all the way and then slamed shut. I stood there for a second with my jaw hanging open thinking "No way that just happened." Nothing else happened and the weird feeling was sone after that but I still had the willies for the rest of the night. |
Seeker, I saw that happen quite often when I worked at a grocery when the humidity was just right. The air doesn't compress and all the doors open about 2 inches to equalize the pressure... it's still weird though. Especially late at night.

It's weird how things work some times.
I was at work a few months ago, and I had just finished taking out a green bin. It was near the end of the night so things had calmed down quite a bit. As I walked back towards dish pit, I saw one of my Co-Workers, Johny P. leaning down to pick some dropped cutlery off the floor for us; just at that moment, the full Cup rack above his head just decided to fall. I dove and caught it just two inches away from his head. It scared the crap out of him, and we joked that now he had to be my servant because I saved his life. So later on in the night, I'm putting some freshly cleaned pans away, and lo and behold, the stack of Insert lids above me just falls. Johny P. caught them just 5 inches from my head. weird. now we're even. |
in about two months, ill be done with school. forever. just about 18 years of education, soon to come to a close. Its kind of wierd because I don't really know any other way of life other than school, so it should be interesting to be out just working and living.

My best friend.
No, seriously. It is only a slight exaggeration to say that he is more random and crazy than everything that has been mentioned in this thread combined. It's one of those things that you just have to experience for yourself. |
