MTG: Unhinged (card spoilers)
N O T E
Card spoilers are given. If you just want to experience the suprise for yourself at the outrageous stuff in this expansion, just don't read my post. ... ... ... This weekend brought the sequel to the Unglued set to the Magic: The Gathering community. Craziness and donkies ensued. To quote the advertisement, "Behond the Power of Ass." Here's some of the stuff I found from just two boosters. I'll post more after the local comic store's draft tournament tomorrow ^_^ ---------------------------------------- Gleemax - 1,000,000 (colorless) Artifact You choose the target of all spells and abilities (note: I don't own this card, just saw it in someone else's booster so i'm not 100% sure this is fully accurate) ---------------------------------------- Mox Lotus - 15 (colorless) Artifact Tap - produce infinite mana, you do not suffer from mana burn (note: I don't own this card, just saw it in someone else's booster so i'm not 100% sure this is fully accurate) ---------------------------------------- Yet Another AEther Vortex - 3RR Enchantment All creatures have haste Players play with the top card of their libraries revealed Noninstant, nonsorcery cards on top of a library are in play under their owner's control in addition to being on the library. ------------------------------------------ Stone-Cold Basilisk - 4G Creature - Basilisk Whenever Stone-Cold Basilisk blocks or becomes blocked by a creature with fewer letters in it's name, destroy the creature at end of combat. Whenever an opponent reads Stone-Cold Basilisk, that player is turned to stone until end of turn. Stoned players can't attack, block, or play spells or abilities. 2 1/2 / 5 ------------------------------------------- Mouth To Mouth - 3U Sorcery You and target opponent have a breath holding contest, i fyou win, gain control of target creature that player controls -------------------------------------------- Shoe Tree - 4G Creature - Treefolk Shoe Tree comes into play with up to two shoe counters on it. Use your shoes as counters. Shoe Tree gets +1/+1 for each shoe counter on it 3/3 --------------------------------------------- Punctuate - 3R Instant Punctuate deals damage to target creature equal to half the number of punctuation marks in that creature's text box --------------------------------------------- Farewell to arms - 1BB As Farewell to Arms comes into play, chose a hand attached to an opponent's arm. When the chosen hand isn't behind it's owner's back, sacrifice Farewell to Arms. If you do, that player discards his or her hand... of cards (the lawyers wouldn't let us do it the other way) ---------------------------------------------- You may have noticed the two and a half power on the Basilisk. This set brings in 1/2 toughness and power, 1/2 life, and 1/2 mana (which can lead to 1/2 a point of life mana burn) units.... amongst other things  On one final note, the lands are quite possibly the coolest ones I've ever seen to come from an expansion. Think full-card-size picture. Thoughts? EDIT: I was feeling generous (or bored) so here's a pic of my (foil) forest. http://img35.exs.cx/img35/661/DSC00125.jpg |
I personally liked the various Donkey cards. Fat Ass, Bad Ass, Smart Ass, Dumb Ass, Cheap Ass, Assquatch, Ass-Whupin, and the spoof of City of Brass: City of Ass. Also, it must be noted Bad Ass is looking for some Good Ass, according to the flavor text.
|
Yes, one cannot overlook the asstonishing amount of donkey cards. And as always with this type of set, the flavor text is priceless.
btw could they possibly be continuing the flavor text idea that the "double _____" cards from Unglued set started with the "Gotcha!" cards? for those that don't know, the "double ____" cards in Unglued formed the sentence In a duel and takin' a lickin... The wizard exlaimed, "I'm no chicken..." "I'm facing defeat..." "But next time we meet..." "You're in for a nasty butt-kickin'" using 5 cards, one of each color. Their effects happen in the game you're in, and then in the next game you play with that opponent. Spell Counter - 2BB Instant Counter Target Spell Gotcha - Whenever an opponent says "spell" or "counter" you may say "Gotcha!" If you do, return Spell Counter from your graveyard to your hand. Flavor: Playing Unhinged... |
I was told half an hour before the one right down the street from me started that I couldn't go. But I'm not bitter. Of course not. I'm not pissed that I missed the event that I've been looking forward to for a month. OF COURSE NOT!
|
There once was a player named Quinn...
Who consistently managed to win. Until he got singed... Playing Unhinged... Getting “Gotcha’ed” again and again. Creature Guy, Save Life, Deal Damage, Spell Counter, and Kill! Destroy! |
Bah, I'm not really a fan of the 'Unhinged/Unglued' sets...
Why waste cash on cards that you can't even use? |
Loose Lips is awesome. I've already made a blue deck with Unhinged, and this is the best card in it. It works with the Gotcha mechanic, and I make my opponents say all kinds of incriminating things with it.

The Ultimate card: Frankie Peanuts (I like It because it has my name in it)
Cost:2 colorless 2 white. Abilities:At the beginning of your upkeep, you may ask target player a yes-or-no question. If you do, that player answers the question truthfully and abides by that answer if able until end of turn. Flavor Text:Don't cross with him or you'll end up sleeping with the merfolk. |
Please, this is the funniest card ever. The flavor text is great.
|
I personally think that Frazzled Editor was made so they could write penis on a card.
|
Here are some of the cards I got:
When Fluffy Bunnies Attack 3B Instant Target creature gets -X/-X until end of turn, where X is the number of times the letter of your choice appears in that creature's name. AWOL 2W Instant Remove target attacking creature from the game. Then remove it from the removed-from-game zone and put it in the absolutely-removed-from-the-freaking-game-forever zone. Our Market Research Shows That Players Like Really Long Card Names So We Made this Card to Have the Absolute Longest Card Name Ever Elemental 1GG Creature - Elemental Art rampage 2 (Whenever this becomes blocked by a creature, it gets +2/+2 for each creature in the blocker's art beyond the first.) |
Just got back from the draft, and damn was that crazy. Only 6 pplz showed up, but we still played. It was best two out of three and we each battled three players.
Round 1 - My opponent and I just beat on each other... nothing special save for when we had a staring contest in which lifted up his shirt and danced around (large hairy man, not a pretty sight... he won the staring contest) Round 2 - I play Topsy Turvy (all your phases are reversed) but he ends up overpowering my creatures again Round 3 - I get seriously mana flooded (every card but two I had in that game was mana) and wiped out by some Man of Measure (2/2 -- +1/+0 if you're taller than opponent, +0/+1 if you're shorter than opponent) and Cheatyfaces (2/2 goes into play when and wherever you like for free if they don't catch you doing so... he hid them under his lands). Round 4 - I'm mana screwed once again (no blue mana, despite my hand holding 4 blue cards. He gets that damn long named elemental out then the card that gives it +1/+1 for each word in it's name... 27/27... OUCH! Round 5 - I manage to get a bunch of Red Hot Hotties (2/5 when damages creature, gets 3rd degree burn counter, if the creature's controller doesn't shout "AAAAHHH!" at the end of each turn they sacrifice it... what made this even more beautiful is that he had Igpay Atinlay and had to scream "HHHHHAY!") Round 6 - Turn one, I play booster tutor (open one Magic booster and put a card into your hand from it) I went and bought a Miroden (sp?) and found myself a Loxydon Warhammer (artifact equipment -- +3/+0 trampe when it does damage gain that much life) put it on my double header (2/3 flyer that bounces a card with 2 words in it's name when it comes into play) and just kept swinging since he couldn't block. Anyways, as I promised, a few more cards that I got as a result of the draft. Magical Hacker -- 1B B: change text of target spell or permanant by replacing all + with - or vice versa 1/1 ------------------------------- Rod of Spanking -- (1) Artifact (2) + Tap : Rod of spanking deals 1 damage. Rod of spanking untaps unless that player says "Thank you sir may I have another" ---------------------------- Goblin S.W.A.T. Team-- 3R Creature -- Goblin Warrior Say "Goblin SWAT Team" put a +1/+1 counter on this card unless opponent swats the table within 5 seconds of you doing so. --------------------------- Rare-B-Gone -- 2BR Sorcery Each player sacrifices and discards all rare parmanants -------------------------- Rocket Powered Turbo Slug -- 3R Creature -- Slug Super Haste (may put out tap and attack during your declare attackers phase on the turn before you play it. Lose the game unless you pay for it next turn.) -------------------------- Cheatyface -- ?BB (? because the pic is stealing that circle) Creature -- Efreet You may sneak cheatyface into play at any time without paying for it, but if an opponent catches you right away, remove cheatyface from the game. Flying 2/2 --------------------------- Booster Tutor - B Open a sealed Magic Booster, reveal the cards, and put one of them into your hand. -------------------------- Greater Morphling -- 6BB 2: Greater Morphling gains your choice of (insert ALL positive creature abilities here) until end of turn 2: becomes color of your choice until end of turn 2: becomes creature type of your choice until ened of turn 2: gets expansion symbol of your choice until end of turn 2: becomes artist of your choice until end of turn 2: +2/-2 or -2/+2 2: Untap ---------------------------- Johnny, Combo Player - 2BB Legendary Creature -- Human Gamer 4: search library for a card and put into your hand --------------------------- |
I like the lands out of this set. I need to get my hands on a bunch.
|
I checked the rules. Cheatyface costs UUU. Also, you can use improper sentences for Loose Lips, such as "Booga booga booga booga!"
|
I like the lands artwork (goddamn that swamp is bitchin), but the layout...meh. I think the UN sets should be about being different. A whole card of land is cool and all, but the Unglued lands were great for the design AND art.
I think they should make something that looks good either way, tapped or untapped. Like a landscape or panoramic view. Lands are always gunna get tapped, so we always enjoy the landscapeness. Or maybe take RL photos and put em on the card (lord knows we've got forests, swamps, islands, mountains and swamps aplenty). I wonder if you sneak Cheatyface in, and your opponent catches you on it, BUT you BS out of it (SEE, I paid with these two islands, REALLY!), do you still have to discard it if he believes you? |
Yeah, they were kinda questioning the validity of my loose lips play with the sentence "Watertown brominated designation stewardesses waffle tibia carbohydrate denmark."
And if the opponent believes that you paid for Cheatyface, when in fact you didn't, there's nothing keeping him from enforcing that rule since all he/she knows is that it came into play in a legit way (albeit sneaky). That's my guess. I still need to read up on the card specific rules for this game... anyone got a good link? |
The fellow who does Saturday School claims that Cheatyface must be in your hand for the game to see it, but I don't believe it.
|
I'm going to come right out and say this:
I played M: tG for six years. I remember Unglued quite well, thought it was funny. But once is enough. Now, to me, it's just stupid. This is one of the reasons I got out of Magic. The R&D guys have run out of good, balanced ideas. |

I still play and find that R&D is makeing green Uber. Just something I like to complain about. Hate Free Zone |
...Green? Uber?
It might have been slightly better off in Mirrodin world, where it finally got to destroy all the wittle artifacts it wanted, but in CHK its basically some fatties and lots of land cards. I tried to get into green, but its always seemed like a support color. It gets you mana FAST, can help spread the color base, and maybe sprout out some cheap tokens or a late game trample fattie. Blue can at least annoy you to death, White has all its Bushido goin on (although it really sucks nowadays), and Black and Red just have fun with all the cool toys. |
Just want to mention, in Champions of Kamigawa all five Myojins:
All have "comes into play with a divinity counter on it if you played it from your hand. Is indestructible as long as it has a divinity counter on it." -Myojin of Cleansing Fire- 8 con. mana 4/6 White (RT) Remove a divinity counter, Destroy each other creature. -Myojin of Infinite Rage- 10 con. mana 7/4 Red (RT) Remove a divinity counter, Destroy all lands. -Myojin of Night’s Reach- 8 con. mana 5/2 Black (RT) Remove a divinity counter, Each opponent discards his or her hand -Myojin of Seeing Winds- 10 con. mana 3/3 Blue (RT) Remove a divinity counter from, Draw a card for each permanent you control. -Myojin of Life’s Web- 9 con. mana 8/8 Green (RT) Remove a divinity counter, Put any number of creature cards from your hand into play. I think R&D didnt make these evenly. Dispite the rule text compare the Green Myojin and the Blue Myojin, your paying 1 less mana for a 8/8 while you pay 1 more for a 3/3. I also remember the fifth dawn series, all 5 Bringers all costed the same, 5/5, trample, and pay 1 of all colors instead of mana cost. I thought that was even and fair, but the thing that angered me was the Bringer of the White dawn's other ability, focused on artifacts not an usefull ability in an all white or no artifact deck. Hate Free Here |
Well, to make things a bit abstract about those Myojin.
Imagine that we are of the same race, same age and same gender. Are we still completely the same? I think not, you might be stronger, but I may be faster and more agile and can take more punches. See my point? Ofcourse you can't really compare real life with a card game, but just think about it. |
