My pet peeve regarding on-line forums?
Grammar Police. :p Seriously, thought. This really does bug me, and I have been guilty of it in the past. I have seen arguments devolve by the person losing attacking the intelligence of the other by pointing out nit-picky mistakes. It's okay to correct a person, but do so nicely. |
At the risk of sounding like a technical jerK, people that use 'good' and 'well' interchangably when they should only be using one or the other. That's probably my biggest pet peeve. Not sure what I'm talkin' about? Here's an example:
"Hey, man, how're you?" "I'm doin' good." That shouldn't be 'good', that should be 'well'. Another pet peeve of mine, probably one of the biggest ones I have, is someone coming up to me and bragging to me how 'totally smashed' they got, and all the 'funny (read: idiotic)' things they did while in said drunken state. Grrrr... |
My pet peeves? Hmm... I have a few.
1) People who think that, just because I'm a Juggalo, I'm an illiterate moron. I'll admit that quite a few Juggalos ARE illiterate morons... But for every illiterate moron Juggalo, there are 5 good ones. 2) Guys who beat their wives... Or any other woman, for that matter. 3) Closed-minded bigots. See also 'Nazi' or 'Redneck'. Since I live in Alabama, this is a major problem for me. 4) Leet speak... I HATE, despise, and loathe leet speak... It makes me want to harm someone or something. |
I'm not really one for grammar hating, though I will get on to my friends for using "u" instead of "you." I don't mind in IMs, but when you're on a forum, you've got the time to spell it out.
But yeah, we all misspell things every once and a while. So, I don't really mind to many grammar problems, even when it comes down to the "dude t3h r0x0r is linkg madnn!!1!" As long as I can understand, I'm good. My opinion of them might not be too high, but that has more to do with the content than the presentation. And I will try to translate my dialect online sometimes as well. Everyonce in a while, I'll type something like "Friggin'," which isn't really a word, but I say it anyways. |

Now, I may be out of touch with reality, but I can't for the life of me understand what people are trying to say when they post something like that. Standard typos, such as not capitalizing or using 'there' instead of 'their', happen. They happen to everyone. I'm sure everyone on here understands that and can get past it. But when you come up with a seemingly random string of characters and expect people to read it as though it were a standard language, I have to say that is my biggest pet peeve. |

People that type in ebonics.
|
Well, typing 'OMG' and 'ROTMFFLMMFAO' is just plain idiotic.
But those small english mistakes that I do get often. Because, countless times I have failed English class at school. But I know enough to get the "Theres" Right. Don't hate me because I'm stupid. |
