End Times

“Wow.”
“Yeah.”
“Well, they had a good run I guess, humans I mean. What was it, a million, two?”
“Something like that. They seemed to enjoy it. Up until, the you know, incident…”
“Armageddon does that to mortals. Think that some of them might make it?”
“Not a chance in…whatever we call this place. I mean, the Behemoth just stomped out an entire town, that doesn’t bode well.”
“So, looks like its finally the END ALL, the Great Battle, Heaven and Hell, two infinite planes of power enter, one reign for eternity and then some.”
“Yep. Just like the good old days. Angel against demon, Deadly Sin versus Divine Gift, no humans around to muck it up.”
“Speaking of which, shouldn’t we be, I dunno, killing each other instead of conversing?”
“Probably, but on the grand or Great scale, will two soldiers really change the course of it all?”
“Hmm…never saw it like that. I guess things would be a lot different if more were like us. Looking at the bigger picture and all.”
“Well I’m sure we’re not the only ones. I mean, camaraderie isn’t a unique idea, ya know?”
“I guess. Will you look at that big guy go. At least this is gunna be entertaining.”
-- -- -- -- - -- -- -
So I think this would be the ok vehicle for my “Roundtable GM” thing.

Basically, the Armageddon occurred, and Humans didn’t make it. Heaven, Hell, and Earth were all scrunched onto the same plane. The three great beasts (see below) were let loose, the Four Horsemen revved up, the Seven Deadly Sins and like-numbered Divine Gifts were anthromorphized, God and Satan agreed to keep their omnipotent hands out of the proceedings and all is set for an all out war.

Except for the fact that a few don’t really want to fight. And if they do, not for the End Times. The Battle will last for millennia (probably), why go all out now?

And that’s who we are. Just some guys and gals who banded together out of a longing to persist than destroy, even if it means banding up with the ‘enemy’.

So, the dealio:

Story Progression
I make a chapter, you make a chapter. There is no true story, we have no real ‘point’ or any actual ‘plot’ just us doing what we want to do. Wanna make a chapter where we try to take down the Leviathan? Go ahead. Have this kooky idea of an angel who took too much power, just call the next chapter and go. That way we won’t run into a point where we just stall and if it fails I can blame it on you guys.

World
Like I said above, we’re now living in a should-be-uninhabitable mesh of the Three Planes. Lakes of Eternal Flame, Forests of Merciful Grace, some scattered bars and pubs. Whatever you can think of probably got transplanted here. So if you’re strapped for settings, you have no imagination.

‘Races’
Well, not so much Races as ‘Sides’. Sides are as such:

Hell
Demons – This is the foot soldier. Except no two are alike. They can have weird shapes, weird majiks, whatever. Most have two forms, their human looking one, and the true demon. As long as its not godmoddy, you can be whatever form or powers or whatever. I will make fun of you mercilessly if you overstep the bounds in my head.

Deadly Sins – Ok, these are like Hell’s generals, some of the bad boys. Even though their composed of essential Hell elements, some (that would be anyone who wants to be a Sin) are ‘nuetral-ish’, living their lives without sides, the always present nagging feeling that someday they’ll be called into duty. Sins take on a slightly human form, and their powers are for you to decide. Want Gluttony to be a gigantic fat man who fights using a knife and spork? Go ahead. Or maybe you envision Sloth as a goth kid with sleep powers. Go wild. Again, not too wild, and keep in character. The refresher list:
Pride
Greed
Envy
Gluttony
Lust
Sloth
Anger

Heaven
Angels – Angels are in the same boat as demons. They just don’t have a separate form (they always look like humans, but they can retract their wings if they want). All angels can fly, and all are given a weapon that can be imbued with a specific element (Fiery sword, wind staff, yada yada).

Divine Gifts – Which was created first, the Sins or the Gifts? Who cares? They both serve to thwart the other, or they did until things got anthromorphic. Without the ‘be everywhere’ clause, their thoughts got focused. Some remained loyal to Heaven, but some swayed towards those who had once been their immortal foes. As with the Sins, Gifts form and powers are up to you. Seeing Justice as a being of pure light wielding a sword of more light? Knowledge as a knower of all things? Whatever, just don’t be stupid. Refresher (And yes, some of them sound sorta lousy compared to the Sins, but that’s what creativity is for):
Hope
Fortitude
Knowledge
Justice
Dilligence
Humility
Faith

Truly Neutral
Four Horsemen – These guys and or gals were made just to exist. Neither side claims them, they are just anthromorphic personifications of what they are. They follow the creation rules of the Gifts and Sins, so you can make their powers and appearance. Note that they don’t have to have a horse, any form of transportation will do, if you want one at all.
Death
Famine
War
Pestilence

MAYBE
I’m thinking of adding the Endless under the Neutral zone. Problem is, they’ve already been pretty well laid out, they overlap a lot of the others (Destruction and War, Death and Death, yadda), and they were really powerful. But if someone can give me some reasons they would fit, I’d consider it.

Random Things That are Around But are Just NPCs
The Great Beasts – The lords of Earth, Air and Water. They were summoned by the End Times, and seem to have stuck around. They go do their thing, not really bothering anyone unless bothered.

The Behemoth – A mountain sized hippo (look, I’m just relaying this guy, look him up on Wikipedia, it says hippo), its got a roar that awakens beasts to its cause and the strength to face whatever it wants. Despite its looks, it is capable of reason, thought, and speech, although it is the most rambunctious of the Beasts due to its primal nature.

The Ziz – A giant bird thing (toying with the idea of making it half bird/half dragon thing), capable of blotting the world in darkness with its wingspan. Controls the skys and the birds and dragons of the new world. Also capable of thought and reason, the Ziz is smarter than his Behemoth brethren.

The Leviathan – A giant sea creature (theres so many forms we’ll settle on one later) that knows all about the sea. Wherever there is water, he is sure to be there. Capable of speech and all that, he tends to be the most thoughtful (some would say slow).

My Lead Airbag 11-23-2004 09:21 PM

Wow, I can honestly say I didn't expect anyone to choose a Gift.

I'm leaning towards Pestilence (A human shaped cloud of pure disease) or an Angel.

Darth SS 11-23-2004 09:52 PM

I call Death.

I can Role-Play the best Death you have ever seen.

EDIT- As advertised here

Name: Blair "Death" Muerte. (Death to his buddies)
Race: Truly Neutral
Appearance: Death isn't what you would expect, though he has made good use of his ability to change shape many times. He's actually a teenager wearing a black turtle-neck, black jeans, and a trench-coat. He usually has jet-black hiking boots, and has jet-black hair as well. He also has grey eyes, but a nice tan. He has been known to change his outfit to a suit given the occassion, and he does go all "cloakey" if people ask him to.
Powers: He can make people just drop dead. It's a bad party trick. He can also bring them back, but often complains about paperwork when doing so. He isn't limited to just touching or glaring either. He can collateral damage with the best of them. Finally, he shows an amazing resilience to dying himself, but that's largely because he can only die if he feels like dying, and then he usually comes back in a large blast of thunder and lightning. He can shape-shift a bit as well, and has a bad tendency to breaking rationality rules. Usually by someone seeing him, turning around, and him being there. He can also summon his steed, which takes shape as a chopper-style motorbike.
Weapons: His traditional scythe has some minor shape-changing capacities. His favorite however is a dual barrelled shotgun with a really long rifle stock and the huge blade sticking out of the bottom of the barrels.
Quote: "Okay, really. I've been killing people for as long as God has said people must die. Do you really think that slamming a few doors and a mad dash is going to lose me? Great. Now you're crying. Dammit. This is the crappiest retirement plan ever."
Personality: He's oddly cheery for Death. He has a very positive outlook on life, and will never hesitate to crack a joke. However, he despises paper-work so he actually has a secretary and lawyer he constantly calls on a cell-phone, usually after some awful catastrophe.

My Lead Airbag 11-23-2004 11:17 PM

Uhm...So he can (A) change shape (b) come back after being killed (which can only happen if he wants to) (C) Inflict mass death (D) Apparently has a secretary and lawyer in a Human-Free zone (please, the lawyer jokes to a minimum).

I get what you're trying to do, but when the Four Horsemen, Gifts and Sins we're all scrunched together into their new anthromorphic form, they gave up the wide reaching powers. So how bout we tone down the god-moddy super killer powers? I like the changing scythe though.

Darth SS 11-23-2004 11:22 PM

A) That's mostly for kicks and giggles. I mean, if someone sees him and goes, "You're Death?" he's just going to make his skin and flesh melt off then go, "Better?"

B) Well, he IS Death incarnate. If Death is dying than the cosmos has a problem.

C) Okay, granted. Bit overboard.

D) They're just there to deal with immense ammounts of paperwork. I mean, can't you imagine the idea of killing someone to have large ammounts of documentation that must take place?

IHateMakingNames 11-23-2004 11:27 PM

What are the Endless?

My Lead Airbag 11-23-2004 11:29 PM

But the only 'people' to kill are demons, angels, some otherworldly creatures (the 'minions' of the Beasts) and the such. Nobody cares about those things 'dying' (I'm gunna just say that whatever we kill ends up floating around in Purgatory, the afterlife's timeout box), and they wouldn't really add much to the RP, unless I'm missing something.

I've just noticed that there is a LOT of capitalization going on in this world.

The Endless are from 'The Sandman' from Neil Gaiman, which I am now an official expert on because I've been reading all the comics in Barnes and Noble over Thanksgiving Break.

Basically they're anthromorphic entities representing human 'things'.
Destiny
Death
Dream
Destruction
Despair
Desire
Delirium

Dante 11-23-2004 11:30 PM

The Endless are seven anthropomorphic personifications from the Sandman series. They are Death, Destiny, Dream, Desire, Despair, Delirium (formerly Delight) and Destruction.

And I call Lust. Because I am.

IHateMakingNames 11-23-2004 11:35 PM

Besides Death and Desire, the Endless aren't like any of the Sins, Gifts, or Horsemen.

If I knew more about them I would try to argue for them, since I would want Destiny, Dream, or Delirium. But I know nothing, so I've got nothing to argue with.

I'll probably go with Sloth, Angry, or Envy.
