Do You Believe in UFO's/Aliens/ET's?
Since we already have a "Do You Believe in Ghost's" thread, I thought this would be a logical next step.
I'm completely willing to accept the possibility of an extraterrestrial race, based on scientific fact (read Asimov's book on the subject) How about you? |
I think a better question would be, "Do you believe aliens have visited Earth?"
Yes. No, but I think aliens exist. No. I don't believe in aliens. |
I agree with the above statement.
I believe that somewhere out there, life probably exists. When you remember that there are over 100 billion Galaxies, with over 100 billion stars in each, how could we possibly be the only life in the universe? Life is comparably pretty easy to make: all you really need is plentiful water and a stable oxygen atmosphere. Do I believe that aliens have visited us however? No. Taking into account the distance between stars, it would be all but impossible to travel from one world to another. By going at escape velocities from this system would most likely take Millenia for a ship to make it to another planet with life on it. I don't know about you, but my car ain't got no warranty that lasts for a few thousand years. On top of that, the fastest attainable speed would be the speed of light, I doubt any terrestrial body could survive going anywhere near that fast, let alone for such a long time. And even if it were possible for a living being to travel faster than the speed of light, theoretically, once you go that fast, you start traveling back through time. So in my opinion, I do believe in Aliens, but I don't think there's a chance in hell that they have ever even noticed us. |
I do believe in aliens for all of the reasons stated above by SAAM. How can in our universe of billions of stars with planets of their own and have us be the only intelligent life out there? Thinking that we are the only ones seems a little arrogant to me....
|
That's a fair statement, and one I agree with. Mods, if you feel the desire, perhaps you could change the first option on the poll to "Do You Believe Aliens Have Visited Earth?"
|
im also a they exist just not around here type person. simple because why would they stop here. unless they like coffee because this one place in utah MAN ITS GOOD. (can you catch the refernce),
|
I changed the poll. If any of you that have voted what me to change your vote (since I left them all on Yes and they have visited) just let me know.
|
Yes, I believe in aliens, but I have the same reasons as SAAM, so it's already all been explained.
|
Yes I do believe in aliens. (Note: Old name alien_4_life)
I really do, and I believe they have visited. Because 4 years ago in 2000. Me and my dad went out for a walk and my dad looked up and watched what looked like a 747 commercial jet fly by. I looked up to see what he was looking at and we see the plane fly by, and then... it takes a 90 degree turn into the sky and dissapeared. We both where convinced that that was no ordainary jet. |

But, the ability for them to get here? There's plenty of ways to move 'faster than light', although none of them really involve moving that fast. The most common would be the wormhole. You tear the space time continuum a new one, and connect two points into one point. You aren't actually travelling through space at all, but around it. Think of the universe as /\ that shape. Now you're at one of the two ends on the bottom, and you want to get to the other. You could normally only travel up it, however, instead, you decide to make a tunnel directly connecting them. Much shorter. Now, if an alien race exists with the ability to create wormholes (and have a source of exotic matter), then it is merely a question of how long they've existed, how many ships they send out in a given time period, on average, to explore, how close they are, and whether or not they do a logical search or random one. It would be a pretty simple matter to send say... twenty ships out every year, have them each go to a different star, see if there's a planet capable of supporting life, if there is, check it out, and if there isn't go back and check it off their little star map as not having anything interesting. ...The universe becomes a much smaller place once you consider wormholes. Of course, in order for that to happen we'd need INTELLIGENT life on other planets, not just life, and, although it's probably happened, it's also probably rare enough that it hasn't happened anywhere near us... leaving those aliens a lot of space to cover before they get to us. So my answer would be: Yes there are almost definately aliens, but whether they've visited us is unsure. |
