Final Fantasy: Dawn of Souls

Dunno if anyone has posted something about this yet or not, if so I'll delete this post if I can. But I just saw where Final Fantasy 1 & 2 are being released for the Gameboy Advance, didn't catch much of the commercial cause I had just walked into the room. Anyone know anything more about this?

Indeed there has been a thread about this before. It's, if I recall well, a remake of the original game, with an addition of some bonus levels. More, however, I can't remember.

Its a release of FF1 and 2 on the GBA, with some new boss levels thrown in.

So, if you want the two worst FFs (well, barring Mystic Quest) in portable form with some new bosses, your savior has arrived.

I wouldn't say worst. They are classics. Zelda 1 was shitty by today's standards and people love it. FF2, maybe not very good cause its "level up" system was crazy. But FF1 is a timeless classic and created this entire empire.

Maybe I'm just bitching because I don't like a game I grew up on spoken about like it's garbage. You make a game that revolutionizes the world of console rpgs then I'll listen.

well this isnt the american FF2. I dont think it really has been released in america before, what we got was the 4th game. Yeah just incase ya didnt know

It has: Final Fantasy: Origins. I don't like FF2, but FF1 is a classic. And Mystic Quest did not suck, thank you very much. It did exactly what it intended to do: It was meant as a lightweight version of FF to hook players into buying the rest of the line (which I did).

FF1 was in no way the "worst". It is, to date, one of my favorites of the series! Sure it's simple... but that's the beauty of it. And this version is going to be better looking than the old one. I just hope they keep the old music. That was one of the best things about it!

Do I have to say anything about the irony of what you just said? I don't like hearing one of my games that I grew up with called shitty either. Let alone one that also made as big of an impact to console gaming.

And Zelda revolutionized multiple genres of gaming as well, while all Zeldas following 1 have still kept almost all of the things that Zelda 1 implemented. This is just a long way of saying that, even today, I wouldn't call Zelda I crappy. I'd call Zelda I better than almost all games that are being made today. A reason it could be released as a remake on the GBA and still be a game worth buying for those who haven't played it.

They are nostalgia. Nostalgia, unfortunatly, does not equal good anything.

FF1, as krylo said somewhere, was not an RPG, it was a dungeon crawler. 8-Bit Theater has made it famous. It had no plot, crappy writing ("2000 years into the future, you killed me. . . . Now, in 2000 years, I will lose all memory of the past. . . . So I will be born as . . . something else!"), it had no character development, it had nothing to connect with. Oh, and shiney, if we're talking about things that revolutionized RPG's, how bout we look at the game FF1 copied, aka the original Dragon Warrior.

FF2 at least tried, with characters that had names, and a semblance of a plot("Our village was destroyed. Our parents were killed. We are young. We would like to help you, by fighting."), but it also gave us the most convoluted and broken level up system ever seen, beating out FF8 (*zing*). It also had a cruel end game, with a roughly one in infinity chance of running away from enemies who would kill you in two hits, and even if you won you lost hit points or magic or something. Not a fun experience.

The only good thing I can think to say about Dawn of Souls is that if people buy it in droves for the nostalgia factor, Square might release FF4 and FF6 on the PSP or something.

Calm down, calm down, he was using it as an example. Another series he could liken it too. Don't take it so seriously, Ken. In fact, I think you just vocalized the EXACT point he was making. :P

Anyway, I think I'll be picking this game up when I buy my Nintendo DS (Yes, I know its a GBA game, but I don't have one of those, so nyah!). I got Origins, and I actually like BOTH FF1 and FF2, and the thought of protability is so... mmmm. Plus the extra bonus areas are more than enough to make me buy it!

Also, did you hear that they are remaking Final Fantasy 3 (the original Famicom Japanese game, the only FF game not released in the states) for the DS? I hope that makes it way over here too, it's a great game.
