Red XIII...just what is he, anyway?

Okay, this came up in the AIM chatroom, and it's got me thinkin'. So, this thread is for speculation on just what exactly Red XIII is. Thoughts?

I think of him as a lean, cougar-like creature. Just the way he moves, and his long tail.

Terex4 12-05-2004 09:34 PM

I believe he is tribal race that reflects what a barbarian or Indian type would be if they were able to reflect their totem animals. He is a tribal creature fully in touch with nature. As far as race goes, I think he's an evolved mountain lion. The equivelant of a human mentally but not nearly as destructive.

I beg to differ... *points out his various limit breaks, especially Cosmo Memory*

Terex4 12-05-2004 09:47 PM

By destructive I meant he doesn't rape and pillage the land for his own needs.

MasterOfMagic 12-05-2004 10:16 PM

No... he just protects the humans who do. *shrug*

Anyway, I'd say he's just a evolved form of some big cat, like others have stated. He obviously isn't a mythical creature or anything, b/c he isn't uber powerful...

Um, at one point I believe he howls... This is not any form of feline habit. He's probably similar to a wolf.

Cloud Strife 12-05-2004 11:38 PM

I personally find him to be partially based off of wolves, yes, but I also see his reflexes and such. Those show that he's also a big cat. Then there's the obvioux headdress and such, showing his tribal roots... He's many things, all rolled into one, it seems. A sort of...nature's guardian.

A thought just struck me...he looks like a very evolved form of moomba. Remember those little guys from FFVIII? Hmm...I'll have to ponder this a bit more.

Personally, I think he's an Esper... I have three reasons for believing this:
1) His innate magical abilities.
2) His connection to nature.
3) The way he looks and acts.

He definately reminds me of an Esper.

I agree with Technocrack. Further reason: Square is notorious for cameoing/tributing it's past works in games (the name Cid comes to mind).
