Fox Fire (sign up)
I am starting an RP for a group of eight people. The characters arte fighter or bomber pilots for a mercenary squadron called, "Fox Fire". This group will undertake both air to air and air to ground missions. The pilots should have diverse backgrounds and should not all be Tom Cruise clones. The aircraft you fly is your choice within reason. REMEMBER, you have to be able to buy your fighter off the black market, so it is very unlikely you will have an F-22 or aircraft of the like. More than likely you will have aircraft from the 80's time period to early 90's. When you post your character I will take a look at it and approve it and your fighter.
Thanks, and good luck. |
I feel the strange desire to join, though aircraft ain't my specialty...
Name: Colonel Dmitri "Dim" Volkov Callsign: "Daddy-O" Age: 58 Gender: Male Aircraft: Stolen Su-37 "Super Flanker" Bio: Formerly from the Russian Air Force, Dmitri flew many missions and has a lot of experience. However, he was downsized in the wake of the collapse of the Soviet Union, and looking for work, he hooked up with Fox Fire. He flew his old MiG-29 for a while before he managed to obtain a brand-new Su-37 from under the government's noses. An experienced dogfighter, Dmitri prefers to keep his mouth shut, his eyes open, and himself always ready to act in uncertain situations, which has saved his hide more than once. His Super Flanker is ridiculously agile, but because it is a prototype fighter there are still a few bugs with its avionics and equipment. Though his ground crews try their best to keep it functioning normally, Dmitri still has to compensate for unexpected circumstances sometimes. In addition, due to a dearth of missiles, he has had to rely on his GsH cannon a lot more than before, but being that he always favored the GsH anyway, it is no big handicap. Quote: "Don't need to teach an old dog new tricks... What he's got will kill you just the same!" |
Alright, your in. I was wondering who would post a Russian pilot first. For anyone else intertested you can get a good look at many aircraft by going to this site. http://www.globalaircraft.org/
Even if you don't have much aircraft experiance, you can still play. If anything, give it a try. Also, if you need a bit of insight on the subject you can go here: http://www.combatsim.com/htm/jan99/ACM-pt1a.htm But you don't feel that you need to read it to play. |

You can also check out his pages for a few specific maneuvers if you want to. |
One more thing, something I should have mentioned right away. You c-sheet should include
Name: Callsign: Aircraft: Bio: Description of your Character: (physical and personality) Quote: (optional) |
You know you broke a rule just now, three posts in a ROW! Bad you. I'm not gona tell.

oooo, screw blades of fate, i'm gonna sign up for this!
gimme a sec to make up a character, i already know the plane i want. ----------- Name: Marc Taggart Age: 26 Sex: Male Callsign: "Swatter" (derived from flyswatter) Aircraft: A-10 Thunderbolt II Custom Bio: Taggart comes from a long line of aeronautical engineers and doubles as an aircraft mechanic when he's not flying. It's unsure why he didn't join the military but it's obvious that he has some sort of grudge. The A-10 II Taggart flies was customized by himself, it has increased engine power to allow the plane an extra 200 mph of speed. However, these engine modifications must be shut off so extra power can be generated for the plane's secret weapon, a modified PHALANX anti-missile system. Description: Taggart puts to bed the myth that large men don't make good pilots. He stands at 6' 1" and has the build of a football player. Brown hair and blue eyes, he seems to be an average individual until one speaks with him, and it is then that most are shocked by the razor sharp intellect hidden behind the big man. Taggart has a preference for big guns, and this can sometimes get him into trouble. He also has a tendency to believe his calculations over the real world. Quote: "If you think my plane sucks ‘cause it’s slow, then you’re an idiot!" "Swift rain is still just rain." "Don't mess with me, I fly a tank." ------Addidion----------- Strength: Air to ground combat Weakness: Air to air combat Specialty: Area defense and bunker busting. Other notes on the plane: In initial combat testing, often the first thing to go was the advanced computer systems which operated the PHALANX and coordinated with ground based radar. In this model, the systems have been armored, but are still the main weakness of the plane. Although not required for the aircraft to fly, the computer systems are vital to defensive countermeasures. The engines are not geared specifically toward getting the plane’s speed up, but to increase it’s payload capacity...if one were to put this into car terms, the plane has little horsepower, but a shit ton of torque. |
Name: Nigel Longfellow
Age: 39 Callsign: "Limey" Aircraft: Tornado IDS "Pride and Joy IV" Bio: Nigel is a distinguished officer of the Royal Air Force, and comes from a long line of RAF pilots, dating back to WWI. On sorties, Nigel likes to keep his Tornado armed with ALARM and HARM missiles, or Paveway bombs (depending on mission specifics), as well as a set of sidewinders for defence. Although he would prefer to fly the ADV varient of the Tornado, his job has him working for many forgen countires, and the RAF would rather keep thier latest aircraft out of curious hands. Description: Four generations of Longfellows have served in the RAF. From the biplanes of WWI, the Harriers in the Falkland Islands. Nigel's civillian and military life has been privilaged, but thats not to say the Nigel is spoiled. An acomplished pilot, Nigel flew a number of sorties over Iraq, and has earned his rank of Flight Sergeant. Recently, he joined an outreach program of the RAF, that lends out pilots and aircraft to countries in need of experienced airmen. Working in this forgen atmosphere got Nigel his nickname of "Limey". Nigel is a stick of a man, at about 120lbs, and is about six feet in height. He has light brown hair that he keeps cut short, and steel-blue eyes. |
Johnny Socko, your cool. Welcome in.
GatoFiero, I am bit weary of these modifications. I know what a phalanx is, but where is it on your aircraft, how does it work, and where does it draw power from? Second, The engine mod is a bit far fetched, only becuase the turbine engines on the A-10 is not designed for that, and I don't think there is a turbine on the planet designed for that otherwise the A-10 would have it. So I will make you this deal. You can have the engine mod if you agree that it is a mod not intended for the engine design. If you do activate it, there is a decent chance that your engines and your plane could very well explode, and even if it does work they may fly apart at any time. It is not a matter of wiring here, its a matter of structural integrity. |
Alright, le' see 'ere, I’m willing to just drop the PHALANX, cause it would just add a shit ton of weight and make it rely on too much advanced electronics. But i would like to point out, any engine can generate electricity, that's why I said that the other engine mods would have to be turned off, this would free up power for the system. But none of that matters, the only reason i included it was because i was hoping to get away with it.
The engine mods I’ll fight for. As far as i can tell, those engines have not been upgraded since the 70s. That means there are sure as hell better engines by now. Structural integrity is a problem, even if you reinforce the plane's structural integ there is still increased chance for a critical malfunction since the engines placed on the aircraft would not be what the aircraft was designed for. Its my estimate that you can't get much more than 200 mph out of that plane without drastic aerodynamic modifications. In the end though, I’m willing to go with a straight A-10 if ya want. It's a good enough aircraft as it is right now. I just wanted to try and fix it's main flaw. |
