Translated Games
I'm a big fan of the older SNES rpgs. I have even found a couple of games that were never released in America but were translated by really devoted fans. I have played Dragon Quest V and VI, Final Fantasy 2 (never beat it because the system was so weird) FF3 (great NES game) FF5, and Tales of Phantasia. [... even though it does suck that you have to delete every rom within 24 hours... ;) ]
I was wondering if any of you guys knew if there were any other good translated roms out there that I could enjoy. I recently found a Star Ocean (SNES) Rom, but the battle menu isn't translated so I can get only so far with a new and foreign fighting system, but Star Ocean looks like a great game. There have to be more translations out there, but they are hard to find. Trust me, I've googled and checked out Zophair's domain and all the basic stuff. Any other translation suggestions or links would be very nice. Thanks! |
Off hand I can think of Bahamut Lagoon, Treasure Hunter G, Live A Life, Front Mission (more of a sci-fi strategy game actually), Treasure of the Rudras and of course Seiken Densetsu 3. Can't help with any links right now, sorry. I'll look into it though once sleep has been had.
Remember, cool kids don't link to rom sites. |
Bahamut Lagoon is awesome. I'm pretty sure there's a translator patch on Zophar.

For reference, the "delete within 24 hours" thing is just a crock of BS. It's illegal no matter what, ROMsites just put that up to have some sort of semblance of legality.
Seiken Densetsu 3 is pretty popular, as far as translated ROMs go. |
I haven't played it all the way through, but Metal Gear 2 for the MSX is a pretty decent translation. Of course, you'll need a MSX emulator in addition to the ROM. Of course, while you're at it, consider picking up MSX Metal Gear which is a complete improvement over the NES version.

I don't know why I forgot to put Seiken Densetsu 3. That's actually one of my favorite games. I think I forgot it because the translation was so well done, it just seemed too good to be "unofficial."
I may or may not have played Bahumet Lagoon. I seem to want to think of an overhead adventure game like Zelda- A Link to the Past, and I want to say there was a level where you are in an air bubble so you can go underwater. What type of game is Treasure of the Rudras? And that 24 hour thing was supposed to be a joke. |
Gunman's Proof is an interesting, if very screwed up game. It's kind of like a cross between Zelda and Earthbound.

Then what the hell am I thinking of? :)
That sounds interesting. I'm a big fan a strategy... I wish a tactics ogre translation was out. I'm going to see if I can find a Bahamut Lagoon, unless someone already has it. |
There is a Tactics Ogre translation out. The Playstation port of the game was translated into English and released in the US.
