The Bush Administration and Hypocrisy: Fits together like Peanut Butter and Jelly
According to Amnesty International: "A new Amnesty International report charges that in 2002, the Bush Administration violated the spirit of its own export policy and approved the sale of equipment implicated in torture to Yemen, Jordan, Morocco and Thailand, despite the countries' documented use of such weapons to punish, mistreat and inflict torture on prisoners. The US is also alleged to have handed suspects in the 'war on terror' to the same countries. The total value of US exports of electro-shock weapons was $14.7 million in 2002 and exports of restraints totaled $4.4 million in the same period. The Commerce and State Departments approved these sales, permitting 45 countries to purchase electro-shock technology, including 19 that had been cited for the use of such weapons to inflict torture since 1990."
Yet, another reason the Bush Administration is nearly as good as the Husseign regime. Click here for the full story. Of course, they aren't the only ones reporting this. There's also the Asia Times and the Manilla Times And a little cartoon, why not: http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Front_P...es/torture.gif |
That's just the way it is, isn't it? Gotta love those devices deemed too unholy for Death Row use. Of course, there are also unofficial reports that, because the US claims it doesn't torture it's POWs, that they shipped them off to other countries, and had them do the torturing for them.

Aren't all the war on terror POW camps all shrouded in secrecy and such so that if they really wanted to torture folks without anyone knowing it'd a be a lot more covert to actually do it there rather than shipping them all the way to Tailand?
Anyway, freedom from torture is one of those human rights that ought not to be messed with (Well, maybe to interrogate someone if nuclear holocaust is imminent and they need some secret code to save two million lives.) |
you guys crack me up.. Bush is as bad as Hussien because the State Department apporved the sale of handcuffs to Saudi Arabia? hehehe
i don't even need to point out the abusrdity of that statement. here, read this excerpt from teh article: Quote:

Excellent book on the subject: Dude, Where's My Country? by Michael Moore.
Yep, all about the Bush regime and the incredible hypocrisy and lies that go along with it. |
except that book is full of more lies and mistruths.

erm... I think what's funny is how you completely missed the approval of the selling of electro-shock technology to 45 3rd world countries. I have yet to see anyone complain about the leg-irons paragraph (because let's face it, leg-irons aren't torture devices unless you try to run...) Me personally? I'm fine with them torturing POW's. They're not human, they're the enemy! (*SARCASM*) |

no, Devil, I completely understand that an American Company Sold Electro Shock Technology to some folks
the problem is that an american company selling shackles and cattle prods to other countries with some shulb in teh state department's signature on it is NOTHING like filling mass graves with politcal dissidents. nothing at all. this is NOT an example of how Bush and Saddam are alike. at all. the more you talk, to more obvious it becomes that you're graspign at straws and trying to draw moral parallels where THEY DON'T EXIST! |
Actually:
Amnesty also reported, "The total value of US exports of electro-shock weapons was $14.7 million in 2002 and exports of restraints totaled $4.4 million in the same period.
