Books that should be movies
If you know of a book that would make a totally awesome movie, announce that book. Simple as that.
I'm gonna go with Neuromancer and it's successors. They would make great animes. They are written for it, it's obvious. |
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy...I think they were making one, but that was in the eighties, and I don't think it was made...
And if there was already one made, they need to bring it back, and make it good. |
There was a TV mini-series made that covered the first six episodes of the radio series. The first four were basically the same as the first book, except that instead of Marvin causing the space cops' ship to commit suicide the group was saved when a computer console exploded, creating a time-warp and sending them into the future. The fifth episode covered the stuff at the Restaurant (which was built on the ruins of Magrathea in the TV/radio series, not Frogstar) and the sixth ended with Ford and Arthur trapped on prehistoric Earth. I haven't seen it but I've heard mixed opinions about it.
They were working on a new movie a while ago, but the project was put on hold when Douglas Adams died. I've heard that they're working on it again, but I can't find any up to date information on it at the moment. And a Snow Crash anime would pwn a Neuromancer anime. |
When I first started reading it, I thought the Wheel of Time series would make great movies, similar to Lord of the Rings. I'm on the tenth book now and the series isn't ending and probably never will, so there's no way a movie could be made of it.

Terry Pratchett / Neil Gaiman: Good Omens.
This one actually got to its planning stage not so long ago, with no other than Terry Gilliam set to direct... however, it's been stalled for lack of money. From what I've heard, Gilliam wants to take it on again as soon as he's finished shooting whatever he's doing right now. He better speed up. |
Artemis Fowl ALL the way. They'd be superb as action films, and would help to bolster they're popularity, as they are so under-rated.
The Alex Rider series have good action, but the plots are a tad weak. They'd be better off as films. The His Dark Materials trilogy, because they're brilliant books and I need incentive to read them all. It's be good to have the Harry Potter books as films too. Well, I mean, films with enough of the content of the story to be recognizable. And I know it's not a book, but a Planescape Torment film would be super. As would a trilogy of Baldur's Gate films (or would it be more than a trilogy? The games are pretty long). Mikorlias Zard |
No book should ever be filmed. They would only ruin them.

A House of Leaves movie would trippy.

Usually the transition from book to movie or video game to movie isnt as fluid as you might think. For one, you can only put so much stuff in a movie, and having text at the bottom explaining everything isnt exactly attractive. A lot of times a movie has to change several key parts of the book to fit it in the movie, such as the attempt on Dreamcatcher... the ending was just so... different. It made me stop loving Duddits so much. There are also things you just have to cut out, and I dont know, if you read a book and then go watch it in theater, youre bound to see a bunch of differences.

I have one argument against going from books to movies: Timeline.
If you've seen the movie and read the book, you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't seen the movie, save your $7.50, or foreign equivalent. It's not worth it. |
