Cyber Wars Chapter 22: Paradise Lost
OOC: Here's the new chapter, hopefully the first post won't confuse people. And I apologize in advance to MC for temporarily taking over his character in order to keep things moving.
BIC: Kaitlin weighed the odds against her and Monk. On the one hand, they were fighting against 6 First Order Assassins, and most likely they were not rookies. These 6 would be extremely tough to kill, and they had home field advantage...or did they? Kaitiln remembered they were in the Cyber World, where the laws of physics can not only be bent, sometimes they can be broken. Also there was the fact that Monk was fighitn along side her, and she knew he wasn't about to let odds get in the way of victory. Lastly, she also knew that she herself was not going to lose this fight. She had been at death's door once, and she was not ready to go back again just yet. "You six just made the worst and last mistake of your lives" she said just before she charged forward at the first assassin, kicked the 5PY-D3R out of his hand, and then dropkicked him in the face. The force of the nano-augmented kick sent the assassin flying back almost 10 feet. Two other assassins, one to Kaitiln's left and the other to her right, immediately opened fire on her. The bullets would have probably ended her life...had she still been standing there. Instead she had run forward at blinding speed, causing the two assassins to shoot each other. Of course they weren't killed, but they were confused, and a little pissed off. Kaitiln meanwhile had backflipped off of the wall and drawn her guns, shooting the two assassins that had shot at her and adding insult to their injury. As she landed the first assassin she had attacked attempted to throw her to the ground, but as she fell she managed to sweep that assassin's leg out from under him. All this had taken a span of maybe 6 seconds. And in that time, Monk had done his work as well. Using a combination of Hapkido and Shaolin Fist moves he managed to disarm all three assassins on his side and knock them down. Kaitiln got up and faced down her assassins, while Monk did the same. The two Cyber Force troopers were back to back. He was using a Hapkido stance, she was in a Shotokan stance. The oppossibng assassins got up, closed in, and the battle commenced. ***(OOC: Meanwhile)*** Wolf had decided to at least share his findings so far with the rest of the team. It was just his luck they all still happened to be in Angel's hospital room when he showed up. "Good to see your all here...saves me the trouble of telling you separately." he said. "I think we may have the location of Mastermind's main base. It's on one of the more remote Japanese islands, at least according to the info Scrya and I got. Unfortunately I can't confirm it, at least not until Monk and Kaitiln return." Then he noticed everyone looking a little nervous. "...I'm guessing Devin found something out about Javelin that makes this bad situation even worse...right?" |
"Right. It's basically one central power source with a lot of mirrors in space that amplify or split the power and then bounce it back to Earth. It's automated by an AI and controlled with a small set of codes known only by a few people," Scrya tells him.
"What she said," Wraith adds, pointing. |
Wolf nodded slowly. "In my experience, I've found that 'basically' means 'the truth will hurt you so here's the condensed and clean version'. No offense, I agree that that's what I need to know as far as basic operations...but I need more knowledge than that." He looked over at Devin. "If you happen to have the Javelin specs with you now, can I see them? I need to know the scope of this thing no matter how bad it is. Normally I'd have you tell me, but I don't think you need to summarize it again."
Especially because I need something to keep my mind off of what's taking Kaitiln and Monk so long to get back. It's probably nothing...but I'm starting to worry. Wolf thought. |

Angel sighed loudly.
"Does anyone else ever feel like our lives are just an endless set of imminent deaths? Because I'm definitely feeling like that right now." Which is about when one man in a suit showed up, and the agent that had been watching Angel from earlier. "We were told to debrief you." Everyone was too worried about javelin to think about how wrong it was. Angel raised a hand. "Permission to get out of the dress before?" "Granted. But be snappy." Angel plopped into his wheelchair and wheeled into the bathroom, before he wheeled out a few minutes later in jeans and a t-shirt. *** Angel waited patiently in his wheelchair behind the table. Standing in front of him was who he assumed to be a government agent, and another guard that was probably SWAT. The agent's phone rang before he started talking. Then he said, "Understood." There was an odd silence. Then he tried to whip his gun out at Angel. Reflexes hard-wired into his brain made him stand, punch the guy in the face, spin, punch the SWAT member hard enough to knock him out, spin again, and get the wrist of the hand holding the gun under his armpit. He tightened and turned, liberating the pistol, then punched the man hard in the face before slapping him a few times and letting him slide down the wall. It was roughly then that Angel's brain caught up to him and said, "Dude. You can't walk." followed shortly by "You've got several dozen holes in you." Angel slumped against the table, legs shaking furiously, and grabbed the afore mentioned cell-phone before calling Devin. Despite the fact that his voice was shaking, Angel tried to calmly say, "Can you come get me at the precinct 9 police station? I think Mastermind just used an FBI agent to try to have me killed." *** Mastermind wondered if he should worry about whether Angel was dead. But, he was severely wounded and couldn't walk. Simply phoning the agent and saying Angel was a threat to national security, and had to die should've solved the problem. Under the assumption that Cyber Force was weakened, he turned his attention back to more pressing matters. |
"Here ya go, Wolf."
Devin proffered the folder he was flipping through to the man. "Sounds like we'll either have to take out MM or blow up the laser facility. You're the boss, so I'll defer to you." |
"Mastermind."
She's clearly out of line for opening her mouth, but she doesn't care even when everyone gives her a look. "I don't care about the laser, Mastermind's what really matters." |
Wolf nodded. "Scrya's right. If we take down the Javelin facility, it'll only deter Mastermind. No...this time he needs to pay the price for taking this too far. Hopefully Kaitiln and Monk will come back with info that certifies the location I have as the location of Mastermind's main base. Unfortunately...we have to wait until they do come back. I don't want to accidentally send us to the wrong place, and we're already under-strength as it is."
OOC: Sorry for the lack of activity here, MC has been bogged down in work and lack of sleep so we've had trouble getting a collab post together. Expect something either today or tomorrow. |
