NextBox REVEALED! What Xbox2 can do!

How Stuff Works Article

All right. A few things need to be said before you continue reading. Our sources are sound, our research thorough and our knuckles are bloody, but the sad fact is most of this is rumor, conjecture and speculation. That's all we have now. That's all anyone has now. We have managed to get a few solid facts, but as with all things in the hardware world, you won't really know until the manufacturer wants you to know. So keep that in mind as you read. That being said, here's the story.
So can we trust what the article says?

"Halo 2.5 will be an Xbox 2 launch title and is going to run in HDTV resolution with new, improved textures and graphical effects.
What's that, you say? HALO 2.5?!

Thoughts?

Raiden 01-29-2005 12:58 PM

I think my brain just snapped.

That will definitally be on my christmas list. If I can afford it. (Damn college budget keeping me down.)

Why is it Halo 2.5? What the hell? Does that mean that they're going to remake Halo 2 and have it be better, or what?

Melfice 01-29-2005 01:03 PM

Halo 2.5... X-Men 1.5 comes to mind.

They're going to try and beef up the graphics, add two or three more missions and add a new cutscene or lengthen the existing ones.

If they work in the same way as movie companies do... But I don't really care, since XBox is not for me.

Viper Daimao 01-29-2005 01:18 PM

yeah, sounds like they want to bring the popularity of halo to XBox 2, and so they have to beef up the graphics for it, but making a whole new halo 3 would take too much time.

adamark 01-29-2005 01:42 PM

sounds like they are milking their cash cow dry.

like many other video game franchises do.

If it's gonna be Halo 2.5, it better have a better god damned ending!

ZoneHunter1 02-01-2005 10:40 AM

Febuary 9th, 2005.
Thats all you need to know.

Lucerin Red 02-01-2005 10:54 AM

ehh, I'll leave all rumors aside, because a lot of times they are rumors. jsut like the guy that says he knows a guy who works for company X and that such and such is REALLY happening. 50% of the time it turns out to be complete mahogony, so I'll really just wait til we get an official statement from Microsoft.

Also reading this article theres a couple things that definitely won't happen. Backwards compatablity has pretty much been thrown out of the window, which would make pointless the ability to transfer files from Xbox to the Xenon. A multidisk tray is just silly. And 3 different versions of the Xbox, I dunno, that just seems wierd.

A real question I would like to have answered is which format Microsoft is going with for discs. Personally I think tehy'll skip both Bluray and HDDVD and just use a more compressed dvd format, but that again is based upon silly rumours

ChaosMage 02-01-2005 11:45 AM

Well, I doubt either Nintendo or Microsoft will be using Blu-Ray. I mean, that'd be giving their competitor money. Which is bad. Nintendo will probably go with their own format again. It better not be obscenely small though. And a DVD player would be nice, but not expected...

As far as Xenon, however, I'm curious as to where you've heard that backwards compatability isn't going to happen. Also, the three different versions is actually something Microsoft has had out there for a while. And it makes sense. A lot of sense. This allows Microsoft to compete with Nintendo for the cheapest console, produce a technological monster again so they can claim "most powerful console out there" and also compete with Sony in price with the moderate level console.

I say, "Bah," to unfounded rumors. Bring on E3!

Also I don't really care about the Xbox. Viva la Nintendo Revolution!
