Need advice- is this thing legit or not?

http://www.jandaman.com/Merchant2/me...ode=gbaezfa256

Follow this link and tell me about what you know about what you see. I am wanting to get one for someone for the holidays, and I NEED to know whether it is a real, usable thing, or better off as a chew toy?
Please give opinions soon, if it really is legit I wanted to order one before the holidays kick in...

Might you could also recommend another version of the same thing? the guy has his heart dead set on one of these for XMAS, and I wanted to get it for him. (he's my brother)

EDIT: Whoops, slightly wrong page. Try er' now.

Wait... What is it? Does it let you play games from your computer on your GBA, or vicey versey?

kefkakrazy 12-16-2003 09:57 PM

Well, it allows you to download GBA ROMs into the blank cartridge that comes with it and play on that with a GBA. I've seen a bunch of these, but i was wondering if this one seems legit to you guys.

Dante Reborn 12-16-2003 10:06 PM

Oh, I thought you meant the legal sense of "legit"!

Can't help ya there.

A friend of mine is a computer programming major, he uses these things to play games he's programmed on his GBA. I'm not exactly sure how they work though, so if you're not completely sure don't spend the money.

IHateMakingNames 12-16-2003 10:11 PM

Well, this is obviously illegal...

Only if you use it illegally.....
If you were a game developer, would you spend $10k? for a official Nintendo devkit?

Anyways, back to the OP, they work pretty well. Check out www.gbadev.org for alot of legal uses.

kefkakrazy 12-17-2003 09:33 AM

Wow.

I didn't know that you were on this forum, Jandaman! Anyway, I was wanting to ask, does this thing WORK or not? Since you're here, you can prolly answer that question for me, eh?
Still a bit amused that I posted this question without knowing you were a forum member, though.

His intended use is to take his GBA roms from his computer and use them on his GBA. Would that thing support full gameplay-i.e. not diminished in quality? Would anything be less usable than actually playing the real cart, and if so, how?

Sorry to bug you about this, but I don't want to waste my money and then have the thing turn out to be a worthless pile of shit that will screw up his GBA and/or comp and/or mind.

the device probably isnt illegal. well no more than an mp3 player, because they also allow you to break copyright. but copyright law is usually ignored if someone can make money off of it. id probably look for someone that has one, and see if it fuglies your gba. i dont think anyone will even care that you have one unless you start a sort of basement game factory.

its kind of like sony going to court about the evils of file sharing, and then trying to sell cd-burners and blank discs. because their sales of burners and blank discs probably outweigh the losses from copied music, its in their best interests for this to go on as long as possible.

Hamelin 12-17-2003 01:35 PM

In theory, it should support any and all games (some may need patches) as long as you have a card that can hold the games. Remember, that size isn't the filesize of the game on your computer, it's how many megabits it is.
