The choice... is yours!

Alright, one of these days I'm going to run a Wild Arms based RP. I'm going to have a system for it, too... because it's the only way I'm going to avoid either god or peon-modding, considering how the universe works. (you can't dodge a bullet, but the gunman might miss... and bullets aren't nearly as deadly as they are in our world).

Now, here's the question: Would you people prefer a very easy stat system that provides for little customization, but is much easier to use, or a more difficult system that provides for greater freedom and fluidity with character creation and growth?

Basically one system would make stats and skills cost more as you increased in them, but would also allow you to spend exp however and whenever you want, and have a class that makes certain stats and skills cost less to improve.

The other would be a level based system in which you get exp to level up, and then I give you a few points to spend freely, one "Personal Skill Point" (which you would buy as many of as you want so long as you had the XP [or may be replaced by xp completely, not sure yet] in the other system... and if you don't know what these are yet, don't worry. They're part of the game and something I'll explain), but the majority of your points I would place into stats and skills having to do with your class, and points wouldn't carry over. You'd just spend them all at once (which would be fine because nothing would cost over one point).

So in one system we have something that favors a fluid growth and allows just as much for a 'jack of all trades,' or even a mage swordsman, even favors it in some ways, as a character rigidly following their class, but it takes a little while to understand it.

In the other, you're forced more tightly into your class roll, but you still get some customization and it's easier to work with.

Edit: I don't have the story fully worked out, either... I just know I adore the WA world, so if you have suggestions for that, you can go ahead and shoot.

Just one question. Is there gonna be another wacky test of the system like the last time you made something up or is this all tested?

Krylo 02-04-2005 09:24 PM

There... may be. I more or less have a feel for what will work, and can test during the beginning phases so long as I get char-gen right straight off.

Of course, you people all love those test runs with the feudal lord shooting spaceships, so I might have one regardless of whether I feel I need it.

Edit: PS, the fluid system would take more work for me, but that's what I voted for.

...PPS I should have made this poll public.

I vote fluid because it seems interesting and I like the more complicated setups some... more thinking and control involved.

I also agree with choice three because I'm a jackass... :D

Well... and choice four because you seem to know what you're doing.

How does this gear towards one who has never played Wild Arms, and doesn't know a thing about it?

Krylo 02-04-2005 09:50 PM

I'd actually prefer a few people like that, because all the stuff you need to know I'll cover in the sign up, and in every game none of the characters know much about the past. It's usually lost and people are attempting to find out about it. All they have to go on are myths and some ruins that aren't fully understood.

So... In other words, being clueless would probably make RPing it a bit easier.

What ever system you use, I would use a sub-machine guns, like Jet from Wild Arms 3.

System-wise, since we have bullets, I would go with heavy stats.

As the one to run the longest running stat rps, know your system, love your system, and be ready to throw it out at a moment's notice.

I only played the demo of WA3, who was the guy with the sniper rifle again? I'd like to participate with his kind of weapon.

Well, then I'm your man!!! ;)

In all seriousness, I vote for the complex, yet fluid system. I like to be able to do whatever I want with a character.
