Emerald and Ruby

Total Game time: 50 hrs
Clouds level: 85
armament: ultima weapon
beating emerald and ruby, both under 10 minutes and altogether within a half hour, with only Cloud alive and never needed to use my final attack materia once? : priceless

EVILNess 02-07-2005 12:09 AM

I got ya beat on that one.

I spent 3 days getting ready for the fight with Emerald weapon. I had my Materia just so, my levels high, and I was raring to go take em down. My party consisted of Yuffie and Cait Sith. One massive hit later, Cait Sith had a limit. I used slots. 3 Cait Siths. Instant Victory. I laughed so hard at that I almost peed myself.

RevolverXOcelot 02-07-2005 12:23 AM

*blink*

...back to the drawing board...I have nothing left in life to brag about.

Heavy 3PO 02-07-2005 09:54 AM

First time I played FF7 I was tired of carrying all that materia with me, so I decided to sell off the stuff I never used - including Morph materia. No Morph to use on the Ghost Ship, so I had nothing to trade to get the Underwater materia. It took me a week (seemed like much longer) to fight Emerald, die, level up a couple times, fight and die again, repeat, finally to beat him in less than the time limit.

What did I learn from this? There's no encumberance, so carry everything!

Cloud Strife 02-07-2005 04:05 PM

Ocelot: Impressive! Of course, you were level 85 before you faced them, which helps some. =P

EVILNess: I laughed for about ten minutes when I read that! XD You are one lucky dude!

As for my encounters with the weapons, I faced them at around lvl 60, and Emerald without the underwater materia. I see it as a challenge, rather than a disadvantage. ^_^ I don't usually die against Emerald, but it usually takes me almost all of the 20 minutes.

As for Ruby, he's cake compared to Emerald. But that's because he's
not immune to status effects...like stop, for example. XD So, just hit Ruby with Hades and whack away with KOTR like there's no tomorrow. Fun fun. Killed him in less than ten minutes, and no one died. At level 60. ^_^

And yes, I consider those spoilers.

Is that 10 minutes not counting the KOTR summoning sequence? Cuz the first time I used that, it sure felt like I was waiting 10 minutes to get a damage number. :p

Illuminatus 02-08-2005 10:55 PM

You know, I fought Emerald weapon once. Then I got really tired of watching KOTR, so I didn't do it again.

I also never beat the game, because I have the PC version and it freezes whenever I use Omnislash.

EVILNess 02-09-2005 12:26 AM

You know I'm glad to see that you guys got a kick about the ONLY time I have gotten the Instant Win on Slots.

I wish I had hard proof. Like a picture or something. Thanks for believing me. :P

You think a boss would be immune to something like that. Including status affects for Ruby.

Azisien 02-09-2005 09:09 AM

I must admit, I got reamed over and over and over and over by both weapons. Though, my best party ever in the game is somewhere in the 70s. Eventually, I beat Emerald Weapon with much quadra magic, summons, and prayer. Never bothered with Ruby or redoing Emerald again, after seeing how utterly useless their prizes were.

...useless? Do you know about the Kalm Traveler and how you can exchange said "useless items" for 1) the fastest gold chocobo in the game and 2) three Master Materias which are three different colored materia that come equipped with every spell of their color in the game? I think they are green, yellow, and red.

And if you did already know this...well, your characters must just be uber or something.

Azisien 02-09-2005 09:26 AM

Well, by no stretch were my characters topped out. But all of their essential materia (the stuff you need to survive in most combat) was all mastered. In that respect, I didn't need more materia, because I could sit there yawning while pulverizing Jenova and Sephy-poo. In the chocobo respect, I already bred a gold chocobo, I didn't need a new one. Even if it WAS faster, on the maximum difficulty race mode I could literally start the race and put down the controller, then watch my chocobo win the race at his standard speed. In my game, the prizes were essentially useless. Experience was nice though.

G.I.R. 02-09-2005 11:19 AM

It wasn't just about the prizes. It was about beating the Weapons. :-) I remember playing this and having a lot of fun beating the Weapons. Ruby was a beast the first time until I learned about the Status effect thing. Emerald wasn't so hard though if you knew how to do it.

Azisien 02-09-2005 11:41 AM

Without a doubt. I had a lot of fun trying different combinations of magic/materia to try and beat the weapons. I did find Ruby's vulnerability to stop at one point, but I never bothered to sit through and beat him. Not sure why, I think I was starting to get bored of side questing. :)

RevolverXOcelot 02-09-2005 04:49 PM

Ya, even though the rewards own, it is all about going onto a forum and telling others about your bout with Ruby and Emerald, not about actually using the very powerful but ultimately not life changing gifts you get from them.

Azisien 02-09-2005 05:29 PM

Hehe. THe first time I fought Ruby Weapon, I got creamed. I decided to look on the internet for strategies, and I managed to misread a tip on a random site. It said something about Ruby using an ultimate attack to wipe out 2/3 party members, so going into the battle with just one (usually Cloud) would be a good idea. I accidentally unequipped all of Cloud's materia and put it on the party member I wiped out! So I went into the fight against Ruby with a naked Cloud. Yeah, didn't last all that long. I think his physical attacks were doing about 150 damage.

shiney 02-09-2005 05:32 PM

Who here knows the secret about Emerald's ultimate attack? :)

Cloud Strife 02-09-2005 05:34 PM

I know it, which is why Master Magic/Summon/Command Materias are so much fun against him. All you need, those. :)

EDIT: Oh yeah...
The Aire Tam Storm does 1111 damage for each Materia you have equipped.

RevolverXOcelot 02-09-2005 07:57 PM

I didn't know that trick, and I was loaded down with the stuff...

BUT THE MOVE MISSED!

shiney 02-09-2005 08:06 PM

Cloud's edit was right. Way to go. :)

Cloud Strife 02-10-2005 12:32 AM

Yay for me! ^^

Yeah, took me a while to figure that out. Didn't happen until I happened to equip Tifa with only eight materia, while Cid and Cloud were loaded. She took 8888 instead of 9999, and I figured it out from there. That was the first time I faced Emerald.

Rayinne 02-10-2005 04:30 AM

I always liked to have at least one character with Gravity=Quadra Magic vs. Emerald. Although it's not as powerful as some attacks, it's a guaranteed 39996 damage regardless of level or stats.
