I've taken a break from comics (tweebus) for a bit- but still doodling
can't stop doodling
to finish a sci-fi-fantasy short story. I can't write for crap
but that's evidently not stopping me.

this is a complete and shameless rip
line for line
but i did it to work out perspectives on futuristic motor bikes
hence being shameless in my doodledom

Yes, indeedy... I like it!
It's very detailed!
But I'm not familiar with scratch board. It looks to me like mezotint.

Scratchboard is where you draw the entire picture by scratching it off of a special piece of paper (I used an exactoknife).

Your dragon is so cool, CelesJessa! I've gotta try one of those scratch boards.

I just got this new scanner so I sketched this and colored it using an application called PhotoImpression. I just hope that it uploaded okay.

A little explanation as to why she's holding a gun and the "I don't like mondays" - I was drawing the elf lady and then the song "I don't like Mondays" by the Boomtown rats came on the radio. The song is about a school shooting where this chick comes to school, shoots some people (I'm not sure if she actually killed anyone), and when asked why she did it, replies, " I don't like Mondays". Thus the gun in her mitten-hand things was born. I was too lazy to actually try to draw good hands. And I can't draw actual guns, hence the musket.

Really!?
You did all that with an exactoknife?
That explains the fine detail, but do you work in reverse?
That is, starting out with black paper and then scratching
until you get white?

yes, and no there are several kinds of scratch board. I used a similar process to etch a zinc plate for print making. You coat the zinc in a tar like chemical, bake it on etch it with a stylus, and then give it an acid bath. it's very cool if i find some of my zinc prints I'll post them

Yes. I actually love working in reverse. It's what I do most often it seems in art classes. For some reason working backwords works better for me, because I don't add enough contrast when I do it normally, but starting with black and going to white helps me add the contrast, because I usually go for a very dramatic lighting.
