All right, I've been threatening to post some of my stuff here for a while now.

This is part of a series I drew for a Visual Media course. We had to draw out a storyboard for a scene in a movie, and me being the nerd I am, I chose Pirates of the Caribbean. I wanted to focus on the use of light and framing. Here are two of the six sketches I did.

EDIT: Hmm.. It doesn't seem to be resizing properly. Lemmie see if I can fix this... Try this one:

The internet is a marvelous thing!

And that pic is awesome. Maybe the lines are a bit to hard and numerous on the pants, but I like it.

I notice I do this sometimes. It really becomes evident when I rotate
or flip the image horizontally 180 degrees. Or take the sketch and look
at it reversed in the mirror. That's when the skewed angles really show up.

Since the problem comes from a hand writing habit of tilting the paper
when I draw, I've lessened the problem by making a light grid on the
paper first, then erasing it later.

Alchemist, I'm lovin' the shadows!

Since his hair coveres up a lot of his face it would stand to reason that there would be less light on left(right?) side of his face since it appears the light source is from above and to the side. Excellent job though, I love high contrast stuff like that.

Other than that I'd really enjoy this with skin tone, its kinda flat like that with his hair, mouth, and eyes filled in. Keep up the good work though!

Melfice 03-10-2006 02:54 PM

I'm making a new Melfice character, due to possible future copywrite issues for a comic on Ultima-Java. (Link in my sig)

Anyway, I'm drawing up some concepts for the new Melfice. Well, I've only got one now, and to boot that, it's only a face, but yeah...

Enjoy.

Click for a bigger version, thank you.

Also, I know the mouth looks weird and impossible, but it's not really an impossible smile. It just looks weird... I tried an evil-ish grin, but when realistic, anime mouths don't work.

Alchemist 03-11-2006 09:50 AM

it's a little unfinished cuz my marker died...but i'll post it up anyway...New Ceras Victoria!
