Something a friend of mine and I do now and again. We listen to music for a while with photoshop open. After listening to a few songs and doing quick doodles we go into a voluntary spaceout and let our drawing hand go at it without any higher thought interferance.
While the quality and details aren't usually very high end the final results are very interesting nonetheless. It takes a bit of practice to go into voluntary 'art-outs' as we call them but they are so friggin fun and good learning tools. anywho, heres what I did. http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a48...eformChick.jpg |
That's...uh...I don't know what that is, but it sure has alot of it. =P It's..very...expressive. Even though you were spaced out.

Skweeb! It has that loose sketchy appeal that when you look at it, you can almost feel the motion inside the artist's head as they drew it. It's alive and I love it!
Ninja, yours is really cool too - I like how the colouring seems to add a sort of stylized liveliness to the picture. Like all the free fun of watercolour, but with unrivalled brightness! And what does your girlfriend use when inking? It's very sharp. CelesJessa: I never understood how, but I can't draw true anime. Kudos to you! :whee: If you decide to keep Roy's head tilted downward, try raising his ear a bit. His eyes seem to be drawn straight-on; I think you might be able to get away with not starting over entirely if you adjust their angle a little. Hope I'm of some help! http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2...ppyBardClr.jpg This is a toon of my 4-year D&D character, Roy Spinelli. He appears everywhere too; he was even initially based after my brother. And me. Which is probably why he's a hobo musician. |
I dunno. All that artsy stuff is beyond me.

Oh, I understand. If you get a chance, just ask her what pen she used. That would be enough for me.
|
Eh, might as well...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1.../Quezacotl.jpg If anyone doesn't recognise it, it's the half-bird-half-quilt lightning summon from FF8. Not great, I know, but it's pretty good compared to my usual doodles. :sweatdrop |
Coloring a piece that my friend drew. Good ol' mario. [EDIT] I FINISHED IT WITHOUT TAKING ANY EXTENDED BREAKS! WOOOH, time to pat myself on the back. I'm very satisfied with this one.

Random Ninja- that's pretty awesome. Your girlfriend is a great artist. And the colored one is really cute. I like the coloring style.
Skweeb- The one where you just listen to music is really cool. I think that would be really interesting to try! I also really like the mario one. Gotta love the face on the goomba and the coloring is great. Khael- Pretty cute! It looks so happy. David- Cool, it looks like Quezicoatl (that's it's name, right?) Also, drawing from me! And it's not FMA-related in the least. It's Celes from FF6, looking at a piece of magicite. I was in a sort of drawing rut so... I drew this. I discovered that when I get in a drawing rut, I tend to draw profiles of people. ^^ Hopefully this profile is at least a little improved from the last one I did. http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/2...les2tk9.th.jpg |
Indestructable
Celesjessa, that is so shiny... I want magicite now! What program did you use? And how did you get the outlines so crisp and clean? I must know! :)
I tried sketching to music, below is the result. Done in pencil and inked with ballpoint. Spies by Coldplay and Sad Statue by System of a Down left me stylized, knee-deep in water with a bloodied trenchcoat and an eye missing. Somehow I do not seem to mind. http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2...structable.jpg |
sketch dump
Got offered an illustration job for an education company (outside of schools, you dingbats) and these are a few of the sketches I came up with just to give them an idea of the kinds of drawing styles I can work with.
