Kat: I highly suggest Paint.NET. It's free, powerful, and what I personally use. Plus, it's pretty user-friendly. I use it with a touch pad. Which says a lot, because, as you noted in the brain-map thread, I have no motor skills.

Blame it on the guy sitting next to you. He probably doesn't get noticed much in class, so he'll probably take the blame for some attention.

It looks like Paint.NET will be able to do what I need, so thanks for the suggestion. Also, that reminds me of something, but it's off-topic so I'm going to PM you.

EDIT: I'm dissatisfied with this on many levels, but it more or less gets the idea across. It's an on-the-fly snapshot of my mind frame while being trapped downtown at rush hour; I had a suddenly flashback to the beginning of Vanilla Sky, and I couldn't help but think that it might have played out differently with me.

More than anything, I wish I'd considered the perspective when drawing the background. I had to crop off most of the images for it to make some sense, so I lost me kicking up my heels in the penultimate image... that was the only part I really liked.

My roommate is very loud and shrill. She also gets up at about 7. Occasionally I'll ask her to tone it down a bit; this lasts about 15 minutes before she forgets that we had this conversation and we have to repeat the process. It's usually more efficient just to grumble to myself a little.

A lot of people shorten my name to "Kat," which is fine. It's spelled a lot like it sounds, and it sounds a lot like a sneeze.

I finally got my scanner online, blech, and so here's my work in progress for my Flarecobra's lamia with fire hair and a spear. As you can see the transition from snake to chick is giving me trouble. :sweatdrop

I'd also like to point out that I use no references, so if something looks wonky its my brain's fault.

That isn't half bad, now all I need to do is work up the motivation and courage to mess with it more... I need a tablet, being able to save is too damn handy!

I'd also mention that I'm cool with anyone else doing the work to color this, I have no photoshop experience with coloring and don't want to mess this up with paints/inks.
