CelesJessa:

I really like it! Although his hair makes his head look small. Also, one eye looks a tad smaller than the other. I'm really fond of the clothes, too. Reminds me of Captain Crunch for some reason... Still looks cool though.

It's captain crunch... of the future!

And ah you're right about the eye. I can't believe I didn't notice that. Now he looks a little insane too.

*laughs* hopefully not in a bad way.

Oh, I'm pretty sure you know exactly which way I'm referring to... >>

Anyway, here's a picture I finished recently. I've been further experimenting with animals (and a simpler method of outlining), and this was the result:

I totally just noticed I forgot his tail... Ah well. I'll just add it for the finished product.

I totally absolutely no NOT know. =P

I couldn't help but go "Awwww" at his big eyes.... they're so cuuute. Kinda like the puss n' boots effect from Shrek. Good job with the fur too. ^^

CJ: I vote yellow or rusty red for the hair, depending on how you want to make him out. Yellow if he's going to be a pampered noble of some sort, rusty red if that's actually a military uniform. Either way, in my mind's eye, he looks better paler than tan. Unless you do a darker tan, like that halfway-to-an-anime-black-person-but-not-quite-just-really-tanned tan.

Maybe not gay... Personally, I'm uncomfortable drawing guys because I'm aware that I have kind of a cute, girly style, which not all guys might appreciate when applied to them. I'd like to think of it as bishonen, but there are a lot less generous assessments that could be made.

If it makes you feel better, I've been working on my own prettyboy:

I assure you the actual picture sucks less than the bad camera picture suggests. It's for someone else, but I'm not going to lie and say that I don't enjoy drawing pretty shirtless men. I feel dirty now.

I did come to it with the intent of also adding the coat, though now I'm afraid of making it worse. I'll probably end up waiting until I have access to a scanner again, so that at least I'd have a copy. I envy your clean art, CJ; mine still seems to look best when it's in its chicken-scratch phase.

For haircolor, I suggest maybe a purple, particularly a bluer purple would befit spoiled royalty.

Also, ST, that guy is adorable.

Bluestar - That "tan" comment gave me some ideas for skin colors, but I don't think I'm going to make him too dark, because the girl that I designed(below) has really dark skin already and I kinda want to contrast maybe?

Kat - Everybody enjoys drawing pretty, shirtless men, I'm pretty sure. ^^ I rather like the hair on him. On the clean art thing, thanks a lot. ^^ My art classes have pretty much drilled going over the same line over and over again. And I think yours would look good when you inked it/made it one unified line.

As for my guy's hair, thank's a bunch for all of the suggestions. I was playing around on Photoshop and found a very nice bluish/Robin's egg blue that I think will look nice for him.

Speaking of chicken scratches:

This is another original character I designed alongside Mr. Gay Nobel Pirate man (I'm working harder on trying to make original characters because I'd like to actually make an original story sometime ^^) I'm also trying to be a little more ethnically diverse(I draw too many white people. :sweatdrop ), so she has dark skin(closer to the Filipino side) and black hair.

And I drew this a while ago but I don't think I ever posted it(If I did, sorry for the repost. ^^;; I keep seeing old art that I go "oh I never posted that"). It was for a contest where the theme was "Disney Masquerade". This was going to be my submission, but I got distracted. Whoops.

It be Aladdin and Jasmine in masquerade-type clothes. I started photoshopping it, but it's nowhere close to being done.

But of course.. What better way to not challenge my masculinity?

And the Puss 'n Boots comment is very true, to the point actually where it made me raise my eyebrow because the similarities are uncanny...

My original intent was to give him the "... Rawr?" look.

katiuska:

I absolutely love the hair. It's the first thing that really sticks out to me. Although something about the arms bother me. I think they're a tad too short. For some reason, I get the "made out of clay" vibe when it comes to the arms. Is he holding a weapon? Based on this assumption, it seems to me like his hand would be logically positioned the other way (palm facing up) when holding it. If I'm wrong, then I'm terribly sorry. Other than that, it looks awesome!

CelesJessa:

In that first drawing, the first thing that sticks out are the legs. Maybe the right one could be moved over just a hair? Also, the way her left leg bends seems kinda odd; like the calf is smushed or something. I love the feet, though (Something I really hate to draw. >.<)!! Another thing, the hands refuse to make sense. Maybe this is due to the "chicken scratch"? Just a guess. Also, yay for ethincal diversity? >>

On the second drawing, it seems like the right half of the man's face is kinda odd. Like it's a bit too sharp and lacks a jawbone on that side. Could be just me, though. I love everything else about it, though! The clothes and everything (from what I can tell) looks great. Looking forward to see the final product.

Ah yeah I see what you mean about the legs. I had a hard time with that pose. I'll see to fixing that up for the final "inking" (heh more awkward terms!). And yah I know what the hands are doing in my head (back of the hands towards the floor, laced fingers) I need to find some reference when I clean it up. Rough sketches for the win. And yep yay for ethnic diversity. Considering my youngest cousin and my nephew are Filipino, I felt bad not being more ethnically diverse in my drawings.

Yeah the faces were weird. I was trying for a Disney style, which I do not do (I would like to learn how to though) and Aladdin's face has been looking weird, but now I know what is wrong with it. Heh Thanks ^^ Hopefully I'll be able to finish it up. I have so many drawings that I've never finished ^^;

katiuska 01-24-2008 08:36 PM

You're right, the arms had been bothering me too... I tweaked them for a while last night, so they look less weird now. As far as I can tell, that's how he places his right hand in the scene I was halfway using as a model, and his left arm goes up and around. The hand might be on the other side of the right, which actually might make more sense. I need to get a better shot.

And thanks, the hair looked wrong in some of my previous stuff, but I think I'm getting the hang of it now.

Yeah, I was thinking the lower leg looked a bit off in reference to the upper half of the body, maybe a little too small and inward... otherwise the pose is really good. I'm liking the masquerade... I'm having a hard time seeing Jasmine, but I think that's only because her hair isn't colored in. Aladdin is totally recognizable.
