Blintz as Cranky Kong: PowerFest '94
 

Does anyone else here remember Nintendo's little PowerFest tourney back in '94? Well, I do! I was a young pup at the time and competed in one of the local stops in Western Indiana. Made it to the finals, too. SMB:Lost Levels, Mario Kart, and Ken Griffey Baseball is all you had to know :cool: . I was good enough for the local finals :D ... then I choked extremely :eek: . Anyone else old enough to remember/have played in it? Just curious...

I never heard of that. Sounds neat, they should do another one (with SSB:M!)

That'd be one helluva tourney to play in.

what I want to kno is why blockbuster stopped having those video game tournaments during the summer. I miss them and want to compete somewhere locally.

I played in it... even though i was only eleven.
i was lucky enough to be paired with some crappy players and i made it to the playoffs. then a master at SMB:3's battle screen took me on a stole all my lives every time i beat a level.

basically, i beat the levels until about the seventh world with him leeching my lives. then i get game over and he goes on to smash bowser.

and some said the old mario games had no multiplayer appeal at all.

I think that was an older tournament. The only reason it sounds familar to me is the lame-@$$ old movie 'The Wizard' :D Gotta love the Power Glove, though. (God, I feel old again... :bmage: )

God that movie sucked.

I still dont understand what the powerglove is, or how it improves gameplay. to me it just looked like an NES controller strapped to your hand.

if you could actually use the power glove it was great, only that was less than 1% of the time. with the exception of at least one game that was made for the power glove, but it sucked anyway. it's mostly a novalty
