Robot Chicken

Did anyone else catch this mediocre outing by Adult Swim on Sunday?

For those of you who don't know, Robot Chicken is essentially a 'fast' paced (they have problems with the fast part at times) sketch comedy animation show that uses action figures and stop-motion animation. And it's by Seth Green. So, basically, it's 11 minutes of Seth Green playing with action figures, or something.

I must admit, the show does have some potential, but it still needs some work. Quite a bit of it, actually. I did get a chuckle in here and there, but it was mostly from the quick, 5 second sketches that it had. I didn't laugh, chuckle, giggle, smirk, crack a smile, anything throughout the two long sketches. And therein lies the problem.... The writers can't keep the momentum of a joke/sketch for more than 30 seconds, a minute at the most. And when you have sketches that eat up 3 to 5 minutes (the un-funny Optimus Prime bit, and the agonizing 'Bloopers Show' bit), you get sketches that turn sour really quickly.

So, if they fix the pacing issues in later episodes, it may be a nice addition to the Adult Swim line-up.

For now, at least it bumped Tom Goes to the Mayor out of the rotation. Don't get me wrong, Tom Goes to the Mayor is a good show, it's just after seeing the four episodes it had 7 times each, it got kinda old. Way to go, Williams Street. Kill a good show before it really has a chance to see the light.

really, I loved the blooper thing.

But through the whole thing I kept thinking, I know I should be offended, but I was too busy laughing to care

I liked it. I guess I appreciate stupid humor, because my favorite part was definitely the "Most One-Sided Fist Fights." I cracked up when the guy stole the lollipop from the baby, then started punching said baby.

Yeah, I do have to agree with you on the whole "can't keep a joke up for more than 30 seconds" thing. I did laugh quite a bit, though, and I think the show has some promise. I thought the line about human casualties in an autobot war was absolutely hilarious, as well as the most one-sided fistfights of all time. The bloopers show was painful, though. The quick stuff works, the long ones don't.

My favorite part was the "This is your brain on heroin" segment. Very well done by both the animators and that voice actress.

I was wondering how many people remember the comercial that was based on. I mean it was several years ago, like when I was in elementary school

I loved this! I didn't think I was going too... but I did. My favourite part was
"I'm so hungry."
"Hello Mr. hungry, can I call you So?"
*face punchage*
The One sided fights thing was good too.

I remembered the commercial. But, I always remember stupid stuff like that.

Aerozord 02-21-2005 05:47 PM

actually from what I do remember, that was the same voice.

Yeah, on Screen Savers a few nights ago they had a couple of the Robot Chicken writers, and they mentioned that they got the woman who did the original commercial to do the voice.

I enjoyed it. Something different is always good for me and just seeing action figures animated is always funny to me. Ya, I'm wierd. Also I will say that I wasn't falling out of my chair laughing at it but I did laugh pretty hard at some parts.

Need to see more to make a final judgement call on this show.
