Final Fantasy guy signs up with Xbox.

Final Fantasy on the Xbox (Mayby. No names mentioned). What will they think of next? (I have an xbox, so I'll be happy!)

That would be great since I ditched my inferior systems for an American Made product. I have been disappointed by the recent FF games developed. Maybe the X-Box would open their eyes to a new realm of non-crappy rpgs.

It won't be Final Fantasy. Square-Enix didn't sign on with the XBox, only the creator of the Final Fantasy series did. They will be RPGs, of course. Just not Final Fantasy.

Well, since Final Fantasy is technically owned by Square-Enix, and not Sakaguchi-san, it's unlikely we'll see any FF games on an X-something console anytime soon. And if it ever happens I'll still refuse to bring the damn thing into my house.

Honestly, how well would an RPG work on X-Box, even a good one? I've always felt that the X-Box was targeted more toward people who need to have whichever console is advertised the most on TV and in magazines - not those who are willing to sit for 100 hours playing what is essentially an interactive novel. No offense to any X-Box owners out there, this is just my observation.

I think Sakaguchi-san's efforts would be better spent with Sony or even Nintendo.

I think your opinions of x-box owners are misguided. I grew up playing FF, M&M, D&D etc. etc. games. There are few games if any that live up to that standard on modern systems. The closest thing is FF7 or Chrono Cross. The recent devolopments in that genre have been distorted to attract the mtv generation, leaving a bad taste in the mouth of those who grew up on the classics. I have owned a PS2 and a GameCube besides my X-box and got rid of them both due to the lack of games of the type that drew me to their predacessors. The Zelda games for GC or FFX for example were both complete travisties after basking in the warmth of their predacessors.
Sorry for ranting, just my 2 cents. I look forward to rpgs of the future for any console. I just hope they break the mold in a good way and attract me to the systems that failed me in the past.

... and here's an update to the Microsoft/Sakaguchi deal:

...so essentially, we shouldn't be expecting any kick-ass RPG's on the X-whatever, since this is basically a ploy to sell more consoles on the Japanese market.

Hmmm. I'm gonna go play some more Xenosaga II.

I think if they are going to make a new final fantasy which can come close to beating final fantasy 6 - or Chronotrigger, they'll need to work on the next generation systems. The addition of 3 dimensions has been meaningless thus far, FF7 and up could of easily been a side scrolling 16-bit game as they were 3-dimensional. So, even if Square Enix did shift over to X-Box they would have to do something completely original and unique to get me back to liking the newer final fantasys.

Eh-hem.

SQUARE-ENIX IS NOT SHIFTING OVER TO X-BOX. Only one person, Hironobu Sakaguchi, is and he's developing NON-Final Fantasy games for it. He isn't even part of Square-Enix anymore, he (along with Nobou Uematsu) left Square-Enix sometime late last year, I believe. He's heading up a new studio, Mistwalker Studios, which is what he'll be producing the games through.

Do you guys remember why Final Fantasy games were developed on the Playstation in the first place? CD based games were the future then since the Nintendo 64 cartridge could not hold the space needed for games like FF7. Nor could cartridges support the needed graphics. Therefore, Square went with the console best suited for its game.

Because of this, I think there will be Final Fantasy on a X-based console sometime in the future, but certainly not this next generation. You can't convince me that a company with stay with Sony just because of the nostalgic factor. Game developers follow the technology, and Microsoft will probably always be up there.

Final Fantasy may never appear on any console beginning with X because the X-box sold abysmally in Japan. Final Fantasy is a highly Japanese oriented game most RPG's are. Square Enix would avoid Microsoft like the plague with their next games simply because the console would act like the concrete shoes on the sales of the elegant swan that is the next FF game!
(I am not a FF fanboy, I am doing economics at school at the moment and if I were running SE thats what I's do.)
Thats my opinion
