staff-chucks

Hey guys, in the Christmas '03 episode Fighter gives BM staff-chucks because he can't use swords, but according to the Final Fantasy games a BM can't use staves, just daggers and rods.
Was this something The Creator overlooked, or just ignored?

Eh, I remember my Black Mage of Doom being equipped with the Power Staff at one point or another...

Besides, nobody's bitching about Hadokens, and they sure as hell ain't in FF1.

Maybe, but is the Final Fantasy series anywhere near as hilarious as 8BT? Give the writer some artistic liscence. It's a great guest-comic, so good I didn't realise it was one 'till I read the title properly. It's worthy of Brian Clevinger himself.

It's also possible the creator hasn't played Final Fantasy. I haven't, nor do I particularly wish to, but I still find 8BT funny.

I seem to remember my black mage in FF1 using a staff. It's just that anytime a new staff became available, a better dagger did too, so nobody used them.

You should work on this trying to give up this obsessive nit-picking pedantic thing.

This guy is absolutely right. Stop confusing FF1 with FFV. Begone!

In some of the FF installations I've played - and I've played 1,2,4,5,9, and T - Black Mages can use staves. (For example, Vivi Orunitia's arsenal includes 6 staves, a mace, a rod, and whatever a Cypress "Pile" is. Looks like like another staff to me.). And Brian has been known to borrow elements from other FF installments, and even outside, so there's a precedent. Or does your copy of FF1 include a hadoken spell, Degar?

I thought of using other weapons for the chucks. Wands? No, too little, no force when you swing them, and would make a boring graphic; two little lines linked by a curve. Rod? Pretty much the same problem, they just have a five-pixel bubble at the end. Dagger? No, that'd make it like a sword-chuck junior, which would be woefully unmagical and miss the point of the gag. Staves? Big, unwieldy shape for a chuck weapon, can thwack people with force and hold a lot of enchantment for the hell-breakin'-loose factor. Perfect!

That is the highest compliment I could hope for. Thank you! :D

I do have to admit that comic was hella funny. I can see the sequel - Fighter gives chucks-versions of everybody's weapons to them for Christmas or something. Mallet-chucks for White Mage! Now she can nail BM in the nads twice with one shot.

lmao..

Is BM ever gonna use these in the real storyline? That would be cool.. o.o

Heh, I think that Fighter will have to concentrate on perfecting the design of sword-chucks before he can move on to other forms of -chucks.
