The Dangers of Risk

Picture this if you will.

The scent of a newly opened boardgame escapes its bonds as the lid to the Lord of the Rings: Risk is opened. The massive armies of Middle Earth lay pre-packaged in there plastic prisons, awaiting the chance where they may sweep acrossed the land or defend their heritage. 4 young men, men who spent their youth playing the Original Risk and the Future Risk...Veterans in the light of War, select there armies and await the fate of middle Earth. The Dark Lord Derek sets his Orcs, Wraiths and Trolls in Mordor. Billy the Noble attempts to pull the nation of Gondor together while Brandon the Bitter and Steven the SlayerofMen fight for territories near Rivendale and the Shire. The battle Begins. 5 Hours later it ends with Middle Earth in ashes and the Dark Lord Derek standing supreme. But the War is not over...the taint of the Ring drives Billy the Noble mad and he declares never to play "that stupid Risk game again". In most cases this would call for a swift beating, but such a defeat can do strange things to a man. Billy the Noble is calmed with the power of Ice cream and takes back his wicked comment.

Point: Shouldn't Risk have a disclaimer that when playing with Males or the very Ego-driven that caution should be displayed? I think so. For the sake of civilized Warfare everywhere.

In that case it should be applied to almost every single game which involves asserting domination over someone else.

"HAHA CRAZYJEDI IS DA QUAKE GOD JOO SUXXXX!" is pretty much the same as "I have crushed you utterly, maggot! Now feel my Kirov power! Muhahaha!"

Monopoly can rip apart the very seams of love and togetherness that binds a family together.

I'm just glad I always cheat and win.

Then we are in agreement?

BMHadoken 12-21-2003 02:24 PM

I won't petition, but I'll nod my head in agreement.

Have any of you guys played the New LotR Risk? Its oddly addictive. (as well as the Future Risk 2240...or something like that...) Those gaming sessions are epic.

I never liked (Understood) Risk games...

Truly? Perhaps you just need the right group of people to wage war on you. Feel like driving to North Carolina? heh

I like risk. Unfortunately, I suck at strategy. I usually end up in a hole under a farm house with a beard.

I have to agree that Risk is catchy. One time four people had decided to try and take over the world. Well, one had to leave early, but she made sure to put all of her forces in Japan. ALL her forces. After she left, we decided to leave them as a rouge group. Hell, it took one guy and hour just to defeat them, not to mention half of his own forces. After that, it was just a waiting game, while we all builded up. Everyone at this time had two different colors we were using so many pieces. By the time we all agreed to just saw screw it, we had already been playing for close to 5 hours, and the game was still young.

(On a note: I was going to win it.)
