Exalted: Chosen of the Sun

Quote:

Exalted is a game of epic fantasy set during the Second Age of Man, a time before our own.
It is an age of magic and adventure, when heroes of legend are reborn into a time of woe.

At the dawn of the First Age, the gods gave power to men that they might slay the gods' Primordial enemies. Anointed by the gods, these beings were thereafter known as the Exalted.

The greatest of the Exalted were the Solars, the Chosen of the Unconquered Sun, the mightiest of the gods. So great was their power that, when a Solar died, his power was quickly made manifest in a new individual - a reincarnation of sorts, but into a mature adult rather than a newborn.

The Exalted triumphed over the enemies of the gods, and in reward, the gods gave the Exalted dominion over the Earth. For a timeless age, the Exalted ruled justly over Creation, and their kingdom was invincible.

But the enemies of the gods had pronounced a terrible curse against the Exalted. This dark magic ate away at the hearts of the Chosen. The benevolence of the Solars turned to tyranny, and peace turned to civil war. It was prophesied that the madness of the Solars would bring about the destruction of the world. Seeing no other alternative, the lowliest of Exalted, the Dragon-Blooded, murdered the decadent Solar Exalted and locked their souls away.

And so, a Second Age descended upon Creation.

The greatest of the gods' servants no longer walked the earth, and the Realm of the Dragon-Blooded was but a shadow of the lost old Realm. Solar Exalted whose power escaped to be reborn were slain by Dragon-Blooded inquisitors known as the Wyld Hunt, and the Realm claimed dominion over Creation. For more than a thousand years the Solar Exalted remained imprisoned and defeated - until now.

The Scarlet Empress, the Dragon-Blooded ruler of the Realm and controller of the Wyld Hunt, vanished five years ago. Without her might to enforce order in the Realm, the Great Houses of her Scarlet Dynasty have fallen to squabbling over the reins of power. And in this time of crisis, the Solar Exalted have returned. It is as if a gate was opened and the heroes of old rushed through it and returned to the world.

Your character is among those individuals who have become Solar Exalted. You are a being of legend, as mighty as a demigod and as cunning as an asp. Will you be the savior of Creation or one of the terrible menaces that beset your world?
This RP will have space for five (5) people. Not two, not three, not four, not six, but five (5), each a member of a different Caste of the Solar Exalted. The castes are the Dawn (warriors), the Zenith (priests and kings), the Twilight (sorcerers and healers), the Night (rogues and spies), and the Eclipse (diplomats and fixers). However, just because the Eclipse are supposed to be diplomats doesn't mean that they're weak in combat and such - it means that they're predisposed to negotiating and settling disputes without violence. They can still kick all kinds of ass when they have to.

This RP will use the Storyteller system, which uses d10s to resolve success or failure. You will have dice pools, which represent how many dice you can roll to resolve a task. Dice that come up greater than 7 indicate a success. Dice which come up as 10 indicate 2 successes gained. Dice pool sizes are determined by your Attributes, which are your physical stats, and by your abilities, which are your skills. Challenging tasks will have a difficulty number assigned to them, which is the number of successes subtracted from your total. This represents conditions so challenging that you have to do well just to get by.

Character creation will come later - this thread is just to answer questions and canvas for potential players.

What powers would differate a priest from a healer?
And what are the powers of a king?

The Zenith Caste favor social powers that influence people when addressing them directly. The Twilight Caste apply knowledge to its best effect and promote the spread of knowledge.

So Zenith Caste are leaders with charisma and force of personality, while the Twilights study medicine as part of their mission to educate the masses and discover new knowledge. While a Zenith could learn to heal as well, he's generally better of using his prodigious social powers to dominate his foes utterly, as well as inspire his men.

I <3 Dante

I am in, so very much in!

I want to play a Dawn cast Solar Exalt, either tha or an Abyssal exalt, although I don't think that character type would fit this setting.

I love you so much for doing this Dante! I bought the rule book a few years back, but I never got to play! :( I really hope this turns out good!

I want to play afemale character too, because I never get to play a female character.

I may need to ask you some rules related questions though, because I no longer have access to the books, I'll probably end up ordering them on Amazon at some point though.

:)

I am going to post my bio later but I want to take the night spot.

RangerAidan 03-15-2005 02:23 PM

Spot claimed! Edit: I'll be looking at Twilight, incase you were wondering.

TheBlindMime 03-15-2005 04:36 PM

i'm gonna have to call a spot too. I've never done one with a dice system before. Although I may be to late.

PhoenixFlame 03-15-2005 05:41 PM

I'm in. Preferably Night, but I suppose I could be another caste.

Once you give a backgroud on what's going on, I'll post a bio and make a character sheet.

Zweihander 03-15-2005 09:11 PM

I'm in... wait.

Son of a bitch... Oh well, if you need me, I'll be poring over the book (if I can find it) that I'm gonna buy Thursday. Blasted exams...

Dante 03-16-2005 03:10 AM

Incidentally, Night spot is now filled by Phoenix. Why? Because she submitted a bio to me half an hour after signing up. In my eyes, this means three things:

A) She knows the system

B) She's eager to play

C) She's impatient, and will probably kill me if I let this drag on too long. Or let anybody else get in her way. :p
