Final Fantasy Books

Does anyone know if there are book versions of the Final Fantasy video games?

I know there are scripts of the games, but they have neither the story nor the impact that the games themselves do, which is why I was looking for books that had the actions, storyline, explanations, ect... that the games have.

I'm pretty sure there aren't, but it sounds like it would be a good idea if there were. A Final Fantasy novelization? I'd buy FFVI.

Nice avatar, by the way.

I have the book to the movie "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within", but I've had no luck with the games. The closest I've gotten is to mangas, but that doesn't really convince me.

However, a friend of mine told me that they do actually exist. If you find anything, be sure to check back here, I'm intrested in this since some time now.

Likewise, I haven't heard of any Final Fantasy novels in existence. If they do exist, then they'd most likely be available, untranslated, in Japan. On a related note, a literary adaptation of the Final Fantasy series doesn't seem like such a good idea to me. I'd rather not read a 500-page walkthrough, you know? If done well, though, then it could work. To do so, it would have to provide a bit more than what the games offer, such as internal conflicts, scenes not included in the game, and the like. An even better idea would be a side story, in the vein of "Advent Children," or an entirely original story, like "Spirits Within." However, to avoid "Spirits'" fate, it would need to include more Final Fantasy elements than just a character named Cid.

The movie did have Dr. Sid (Yes with an "S"). Though I agree it lacked lots of Final Fantasy elements. I think the movie would have been better with another name, that way it wouldn't look bad.

Anyway, back on topic...

Of what I've been able to dig up, European countries have done this kind of stuff, especially Spain and France.

If it was done right it wouldn't seem like a walkthrough. It'd be a more linear versian of a game that involves lots of running in circles to level up. Plus for it to have enough pages it'd definately get more into character development and the evolution of thier relationships. There's not much I hate more in FF than the instant attraction the lead male and female have. They're relation ship doesn't evolve it mutates. It goes "Hi what's your name?" to "I love you and I never want to leave you!" almost immediately.

They could also have separate stories set in each world, like a collection of short stories. Just because the heroes save the world doesn't mean they're the only ones with anything interesting happening. They could write about a chocobo racers quest to get the perfect greens to feed his chocobo so he can finally win the big race. They could have a longer story about Laguna and his adventures. Maybe a cool story about the Black Mages of FF9 starting to contact the rest of the world and establish a nation. My personal favorite would be stories about what happens after the games. Nothing long like ADvent Children, but maybe a short story about Zidane trying taking his kid into a dungeon to train him, or Squall trying to keep control of the Garden while trying to keep Rinoa's powers under control.

Nice 'house' quote, jack. (Thats where I heard it at least...)

Short story collection sounds like a good idea. Easier too. But in anycase, the closest thing you're going to find to FF novels is here > http://www.fanfiction.com

But I have to ask, where could I find FF manga? I read some of the Kingdom Hearts Manga, and that was pretty good. Is there a site with some FF manga on it?

PS: Hi. Im back.

Jack of Spades 03-29-2005 02:50 PM

Yeah I got it from house...I love that show.

Also thanks for the link I've been trying to find a good fan fic site...that isn't hentai.

Kingdom Hearts has a manga? Was it released in the US or is it a Japan only thing still? 'Cause that sounds like it'd be fun to read.

Nique 03-30-2005 03:09 AM

Its good. (The KH manga) a little weird... but then... so was kingdom hearts.

I'll poke around for a link when I get a chance. I have the first chapter of it on my computer, but i lost the site link I got it from. Its in english, but I think it was fan-translated... uh, actually... its not in normal manga order either... (the whole right to left thing) so it might be available in the US...

Fighting books suck. It's impossible to write and make interesting. That's why they hardly exist.

The only way possible to do it would be through cinema or graphic novels.
And I've never heard of any.
