Eu

The EU or Europian Union is a coalition of Europian nations. It is becoming a powerfull economic force. The euro is surpasing the united states doller for the base of economic trade. The Russian federation is a poor attempt by the old soviot block nations to counter it but most of them are slowly joining. I think that the EU is a great thing and more power to them. One of my friends think it is a secreat plan to take over the world, but he is crazy.

Illuminatus 03-30-2005 12:54 AM

That's great. Is there a discussion here?

shiney 03-30-2005 10:36 AM

It doesn't seem like it. We'll make one about monetary standards. The Euro will only become "the world standard" in my opinion if the dollar continues to fall, and the United States becomes less than a world power. It is possible that it might not even take that, but it seems America holds a fair bit of leverage when it comes to world economy and could react unfavorably if a shift in standards is to occur.

*puts on Canadian hat* If the EU became powerful enough to challenge the US for economic dominance it would be grate eh, maybe then America would actually honor those free trade agreements instead of taxing the hell out of everything we can do cheaper. *takes off Canadian hat*

*puts on internationalist hat* If the EU could challenge the US for economic supremacy it would lead to greater global stability, there is no more unstable balance of power than a single dominate nation. A secondary power would help keep the dominate power in check and prevent it from acting as recklessly as it has in resent years. *takes off internationalist hat*

*put on Lou Dobbs protectionist toupee* I cant believe anyone is happy about this, it will lead to more free trade and jobs going to where there are production advantages, LIKE OUTSIDE OF THE US. Sure it will lead to greater prosperity for everyone but it will cause America to lose many of its manufacturing jobs and we cant have that happening even if the economic growth cause by this will lead to more jobs in America overall and lower prises on most goods.* oh god get it off, it burns it burns*

Napoleon98 03-30-2005 12:57 PM

*puts on Fox4© News Cap* Oh don't worry about it, Bush will find a way to solve the problem! And then once he's *aghemelectedaghem* in '08 he'll solve world hunger!
*melts inside satanic hat of doom*

Sorry, just had to throw that in there for no other reason than to do it...
(also not making fun of you RJ, since it does sort of come off that way)

Seriously though, I doubt the US will ever fall from being a world power anytime soon. And I especially don't think that when it does it will be in the way that England did. When we fall from the top it will be in a pillar of flame and pumes of smoke cause the only way our government would allow us to go down in power would be once we're all dead...Whether by oru chouce or not...

I'm glad that more countries are acceptign the Euro, cause it's damn anoying to have to change currency 19 times just to backpack through Europe. And yes for the moment it is riasing in power, but soon (I hope to hell and back) the economy will rebalance itself, and as we finally lower our defecit the dollar will retake its place at the top :D

I don't see the EU succesfully challenging the US in economy anytime soon. Why? Well because I also see in the news all the problems there are with the euro and more importantly the problems that the EU nations have with each other. And then there is the budjet line set for all EU countries...Yeah and all the bigger nations that are sort of in the lead haven't met that budjet, but hey have infact gone over it. Britain doesen't want to give up it's "low" (compared to other member countries) fee that it pays to the EU every year. Germany is having all sort of problems and France seems to be competing with Britain and vice versa. Then there's Italy, but Berlusconi is just a bastard and a moron.

Then there's all the new countries. The smaller countries that joined last year. The problem is that it is feared that they will take their example from the bigger countries when developing their economy, and that will not lead to the best possible results. The best modle to take would actually be found in Denmark, Sweden and Finland, but the only new smaller countries that are believed to take their example from these countries are the baltic countries: Estonia, Liethuania and Latvia, because they have a history with the Scandinavian nations as well as all sorts of co-operation beacause of the fact that they are rather close to Scandinavia.

{Puts on CNN/CBS/New York Times bolshevik hat} "We're quite sure that President Bush will fail to find a solution to the falling value of the dollar in relation to the vastly superior and not to mention secular and enlightened Euro, as well as be accused again by Yours Truly to have been given preferential treatment in the Air National guard while he partied the Vietnam days away. While we're on the subject, why not check out my new shirt, it says 'USA is teh suck' I think the internet kids are saying it these days..."

1. To be perfectly honest, I don't know an awful lot about economics, nor do I desire to. What I do know is that the British Pound has outperformed the American Dollar for quite a while, and from its inception, the Euro has taken advantage of the economic strength of a collection of Industrialized nations to do the same. It makes sense. Just like the consideration of the reason for the apparent growth of the Euro Vs. the Dollar; note the current rate of spending of the American govenment and the current national interest rates; note also the recent tax cuts and successive inflation; all of these factors are due to wartime spending. Quite frankly, I couldn't care less about your opinions on the spending on the current war, or the war itself. Those opinions are irrelevant when you face up to the fact that the numerous loans that the government has taken out as well as a 2 trillion dollar tax cut have let the dollar INFLATED. The natural ebb of world economies will have things back to normal a few years after the U.S. sees relief from being the only nation aside from the U.K. bearing the burden of the war on terror.

Either way, all that really matters to me is making sure that neither I nor my children, nor their children and so on, never have to use those fruity Euro-bills to pay for anything on American soil.

I personally think that the euro becoming the base for economic trade would help americans, well not the rich, but they may be aided as well. the reason is that if american doller is not the base for international trade it would actually make it harder to outsource do to diffrent economic restraints. It would also make america have to balance out its spending to create more economic stability, since they will no longer be the most powerfull ecomimy. and globally haveing two strong econminc powers will mean that nations will no longer have to do what the us says, and i think the eu will always be a more stabil econimy then the us, since it is multiple countries that would have to tank for an economic collapse, unlike america. but hey

(sorry for all spelling errors. if you wish to make fun of me do not spam it here, just send me a pm alright. that would be better for all people)

Back to "normal"? I'm sorry...But things are normal when the dollar is doing better than the euro? Also, don't give any of that "all the other european nations have turned their back on us and we have to save the world by our selves" crap. Cause it ain't like that.

Why would you even imagine that you would have to use the euro? The euro is only for all the EU members. And only european countries can be members. (Except for the possibility of Turkey becoming a member.)

-no, no, no. The implication was that we'd be back to lagging only a little, rather than having our shit ruined. For all of my memory, the Pound and the Euro alike have always outperformed the Dollar, but not the way they are now. Don't get me wrong, though, I'd love to see the Dollar be a bit more powerful than the Euro, but it ain't happenin' anytime soon.

-Ok, as a blanket statement, what I posted wasn't accurate, as we do have a fair bunch of nations offering support in some way, be it miliary or otherwise. I think that what I was getting at was the fact that the U.N. pussed out on us all after passing reolutions to the opposite effect.
