Slowly Stealing Me.
Yahoo News Link
So, more and more we learn about all of our important information becoming available to others for a small fee. A small fee considering the large investment most of us make to keep all of our information private and confidential. As it stands, I looked at my bank account the other day and realised that until I press for cash, there sit my wages - as digits on a screen. Doesn't really look much until you have it sat in your lap. (And then, God forbid if all the worlds banks went down. We'd have to rely on statement slips to prove how many digits we had in there in the first place!) Are you one of those people who worry about purchasing something online, just in case your credit card information becomes accessable to someone spying? Do you have different passwords for every site you come across? Can you remember all of them?! My current worry is my birth certificate in the mail for Shiney's Visa application. Bye bye identity if someone decides to steal it. What are your fraud/identity/theft worries? |
Citibank signed me up for 2 credit cards. I canceled them and they sent me 2 letters in the mail to say that they were canceled. Two days later I get two more letters for two more cards citibank has signed me up for. Seriously, what's with that? I don't want credit cards. They would just LOVE for me to be in debt my entire life. citibank can go fuck itself for exposing me to the possibility of fraud.

There's a phone number you can call to have them stop doing that. Worst part is, every time they access your credit report to check on eligibility, it counts against your overall credit score.
1 888 567 8688 is the phone number to opt-out. |
Fantastic, they penalize me for not wanting to buy into their game. Well, I really want to call them up and give them a piece of my mind (anger), but I know all I will be doing is dishing it out to a low level customer service representative that has to take it, and really didnt do any of this to me. The phone number of the president of citibank or the executive board or whoever makes decisions would be much better. i dont want to yell at some shmuck doing his job, i want to yell at the bureaucrat who put this policy in place.
thanks for the number, by the way. |
Most likely its some prick 'friend' of yours who's jsut signing you up over and over... Banks dont generally sign you up because of some jackasses who will max out like 3 cards from every bank that approves them, then leave the country...
But in al hoensty.. I'm not really worried... cause if tha banks did (hypothetically) crash and people did rely on slips to prove how much money they had.... then I'd jsut take my slip, if it's wrong compain to someone high up... if htey do ntohing.. grab a gun and hit the western union and get the money tahts mine... Now I'll prolly have to run afterwards, and possibly leave teh country, and then the continent, but damnit I'd have my money!!!! Besides.. government 'safety nets' are in palce to make sure none of this could happen... There are also a lot of other safety nets to help against identity theft... Given that it an take months to fix any problems arisen by this, and not everything can be fixed.. but still... not that big a concern.. if it happens, I'll be pissed for about 45 seconds.. until I remember that my bank only had 7 dollars.. so all they can do is put money INTO it.. so then I'll be happy :D |
If I HAD anything worth stealing, I would be absolutely unnerved by that. As it is, my lack of money is a small relief.

I don't like credit cards, I don't have credit cards, If i didn't need a bank account to cash checks and exchange money without charging me i wouldnt have one of those either, honestly as soon as I get the money I'm moving to guatamula and living away from the whole identity theft thing, I mean we cant even by a shirt from a website without worrying that some fuckhead is going to steal you credit card number and buy a shitload of expensive stuff. If you wanna join me your welcome to. I mean whats the world coming to if we cant trust each other.

I feel that the whole "Google/Yahoo/MSN/AOL *pant pant*" Info search is a risk. I mean type up just your phone number...you get your adress, name of the farther or what ever, a map to the place. Its crazy.
For your net credit card deal...ya its risky in a sense. Even GameStop/Ebay/...Ill stop can and may be hacked one day. The sites should have all sorts of fire walls and blockers to stop it but...it may still happen. Also you never know who works there. Some one could happen to see your credit card number and deside to order a few things for him/her self. If I ever get a credit card...I might not but if I did I make sure not to use it much. Like...911 cases if Im out of gas. XD |
Behold the dawn of a new era of theft, Identity theft.
Why go out stealing things in the real world when you can get just as much by simply hacking into a server? Oh the gruesome possibilities. As for me, I'm not signing anything that needs personal info such as Social security, credit card info, or phone/ specific address. That apparently seems to be the only way to make sure people don't get your information, but not giving it. Asd for yahoo and all the toher websites, I'd start investing in firewalls. Big time. |
Im actualy pretty angry about what the identity thieves have done to internet sales and purchases. I have a Diablo 2 account which is worth upwards of $100 on ebay, and i want to sell it, but without a credit card i have to ask my dad if i could use his, but he wont let me because of the identity theft problem, so now instead of $100+ I have a online account from a game i stopped playing.
