Kurds got us Saddam?

http://www.infoshop.org/inews/storie.../12/21/3574821

I just heard about this story second-hand from somebody watching CNN, and looked for a story on the internet. Not sure how valid it is, but apparently, the Kurds did all the major footwork in getting Saddam, and our side took all the credit. Eg - It wasn't intelligence on our side, but of the Kurds.

Since I don't have much info to go on, I can't even say how vailid this story is (I didn't even see the CNN story), but I suppose some of you might want to use said story as a springboard for questioning the media on its reliance on direct government word of mouth.

Or maybe not.

At any rate, it is something at least a tad interesting.

a more reputable newsource,

I think it's probably likely that he was captured by Kurdish forces and not US forces

Raiden 12-22-2003 10:56 PM

Honestly, I don't care who caught him, or who's information they used. I just care that they caught him.

the credit WAS given to mostly "informants" our soldiers only got credit for catching him before he relocated. but mostly i agree with raiden, we got him and that's what matters

I care insofar as how well we're working with intelligence, I mean quickly following Saddam's capture, there's been lots of talk about taking insurgents into custody, and having real leads on the make-up of the insurgent hiearchy.

That may be true, it may not. I'm just less trusting of my news when lies and half-truths are used in reporting. Heck, I'm still not sure about the Saddam statue ordeal since I heard this Jim Hightower report http://www.jimhightower.com/air/read.asp?id=11088

So, when I see something like this, even if its only a slight fabrication, I don't like it.

when reading things like that hightower report just keep in mind that there are people who believe our own forces conducted 911 to boost the president's popularity. there was even someone who wrote a book saying the pentagon wasn't hit by a plane

Hightower might be a pretty left guy, but paranoid, he is not. Looking at actual pictures from an ABC broacast, people have come to the opinion that it was a staged event. Between Chalabi(sp?) being there, as well as the pan view that shows only a few dozen huddled about the statue, I'm inclined to see their point.

Hightower is a syndicated Radio personality, and while that doesn't necessarily mean 100% truth, being his bits are limited to 2-3 minute complaints, ranting and raving is kept to a minimum.

Admittedly, this Hightower bit wasn't nearly as backed up as some of his other stuff, but its still something to consider.

1st things first: being a syndicated radio personality pretty much garauntees his stuff isn't 100% accurate, or even 50% accurate. Likewise, being a radio personality pretty much garauntees that ranting and raving is a part of the act. So no, I take anything a demagoug says with about 8 pounds of salt.

Now, I think the plausability that the statue thing was staged...... I think that's pretty high. But still, its quite obvious the Iraqis hated that guy ALOT. You had people crying with joy on the street, journalists yelling out "Kill Saddam!!!" at the press meeting when they announced his capture. Sure, you could satge that as well, but some of the raw emotion can't be faked very well. Keep that in mind.

it's the exact same with the news though, the only difference is that news is reported as fact and much more likely to be believed as such. of course there are those who spin less, but everyone spins
