The new battle for system surpremicy
Well, we have all seen the battle of the Xbox, PS2, and Gamecube (I liked gamecube the best). Now the PS3, the Nintendo revolotion, and (I dont kknow the new name) Xbox are coming out. Who do you think will "win"?
|
They'll all keep their respective demographics. Nintendo will score the Nintendo fanboys, parents, children, and people who like Metroid, Zelda, and/or Mario enough to buy an entire system for them. X-box will score the first person shooter fans and violence fans. PS3 will score a healthy mix of all of the above plus the RPG fans.
Not like any of them are changing the parties they carry to any incredible extent. |
I don't think everything is going to stay stagnant like Krylo actually.
I believe Nintendo and XBOX are gonna keep pushing dates out their butt until one gives in and finally sets a firm date, causing the other to retaliate and release their system a few days before (just like last time). However, XBOX2 is suppose to now be forcing EVERY game that will be on it to have some kind of online capability. I think in the long run this is going to hurt the XBOX 2 because not all game makers want to try to find a way to make a side scrolling shooter or a single player SRPG or a massive Fable type game into online compatiable. And I also think that not everyone who will buy an XBOX will want to play online. There are people who own the XBOX and don't play it online, so why is Microsoft going to force them to play online with XBOX2? The Nintendo I just have no idea what its going to do. I think its pretty much finished in development and Nintendo is doing a DS right now, making backyard deals with various companies and trying to rush some games for it. But with its heavy online focus and all the work Nintendo has been doing (and hiding) on it, I'm actually expecting Nintendo to have a decent first day line-up of games this time. I'm expecting something along the lines of a Smash Bros online or a Pokemon online game (perhaps even MMORPG) along with a number of 3rd party 'surprise' games which some will be good and some will be bad. This is of course due to Nintendos next system being heavily Online centered, but with a free WiFi online system allowing for you to play online without needing broadband or payments after the initial game perchase. As well as being able to play anyone across the world....sounds like a good online setup to me. In short, I don't think we should say Nintendo's next system will suck because 'they're Nintendo'. And from Sony, I think they've been talking big all this time but are actually far from even finishing development on their big 'CELL' technological breakthrough. They're definitely not going to get their system out first and, pending them dropping the cell idea, are either going to get their system out a little after the other two or even YEARS after Nintendo and Microsoft if they try to wait for this Cell chip to be finished. I will be VERY surprised if we see even a demo of a game at this years E3, let alone some makeshift console completed (they've already cancelled 2 scheduled showings of their system obviously cuz its not done). As for it hurting Sony....who knows. They might be able to take the apathetic 'ehh..we're Sony, who cares?' attitude...but then again it might come back to bite them in the butt. And something crazy could always happen, Like Nintendo could suddenly get a bunch of 3rd party support for their system (they've been pushing nothing but 3rd party for over 2 years now with all their current systems) and take a huge chunk of the market like Sony did. Or XBOX could come out storming the gates and rush everyone at the beginning becoming the 'big leader'. Or for all we know, the next gen just might be a big squabbling match between all the companies doing the same tactics. But something in mah bones tells me something different is going to happen this time 'round. I see too many changes with Nintendo and XBOX to warrant everyone to simply just have the same thing repeat and Sony has yet to show me ANYTHING to tell me they even have a system in a testing phase, let alone anywhere near completed (remember, original estimates for both the PS3 and the CELL technology to be completed was 2006-2007). |
I heard the controlers for the Nintendo will be weird or something......

The X-Box forcing online play isn't something I've heard of until now, so I'll agree they could be hurt pretty bad, and, yes, if Nintendo scores third party support they'll be able to do a lot of damage to their competitors.
However, Sony waiting a little longer to release the PS3 probably won't hurt them too much, because it will leave them with the strongest specs, which used to be the X-Box's only real claim to fame (most of their games were made in ports either to PC or other consoles). That won't do much to the Nintendo's demographic, though, because Nintendo is going with innovative instead of powerful, and if the innovation pays off THAT's going to be where Nintendo's foothold lies, not in processing power. So, long story short, I don't see much a chance of X-box claiming the market. They might get an early bite when they first come out and people buy them just because there's no other next gen console yet, but if they push their release date AND force online play they're going to end up with a weaker console than the PS3 (assuming Sony waits to release it until it's done), pissing off third party support to Nintendo seven years ago proportions, and basically shooting themselves in both feet and the knees. Not that I'd really care. The only games that I thought about buying an x-box for were Panzer Dragoon and Ninja Gaiden. They don't really cater to my tastes very well in the first place. If Nintendo scores back their third parties, Sony doesn't finish their console, and X-box forces online play, Nintendo will pull ahead of the competition, but Sony will be on its heels, and biting, and the X-box will probably drop down to a lower market share than Nintendo's current one. If Nintendo scores back third parties, Sony releases on time, and X-box forces online play, X-box still gets screwed, but Sony and Nintendo switch places with Sony keeping a slightly higher share than Nintendo due to it being the big name in the last season (it takes a little while to dislodge people from something that worked), while Nintendo will be fighting it very competitively. If Nintendo gets third parties, Sony releases on time, and X-box forgets about this online play BS, Sony and Microsoft will stay about where they are, while Nintendo will chip bits off and raise quite a bit. It may overtake Microsoft, but I doubt it would have the momentum to over take Sony in just one generation. So on and so forth. Also: Bang91, contribute to the discussion. If you heard that Nintendo is going to have weird controllers tell us how they're weird and how you think it will affect things. |
He's probably referring to that idiotic article on stuffo. I will bet any number of people that A- the controller's not split, B - the console doesn't look like that, and C- the original colors won't be purple and silverish.
If Nintendo gets back their 3rd party developers, I will be very happy. It could be like the days of the SNES. Ah, the nostalgia. Sony's new system is either going to be the most wonderful machine ever to grace the gaming world, or it's going to be a failed attempt, or it's going to have no games because it'll be so hard to program for |
Nintendo is made for innovation. I like it not trying to be high grapics or whatever, its the gameplay that they focas on. And that is why I have faith in them.
|
My predictions:
-PS3 will win the overall market. -Xbox 360 or whatever will be a closer 2nd this time around. -Nintendo Revolution will be a fairly distant 3rd. |
This may be the closest to what it may look like:
sorry I couldn't post the pic on here: What it "might" look like They can gain second if they just add online play this time around. Plus, if they do they might get the attention of SOME PlayStation fans. |
I agree, it could look like that. But I doubt it. I wouldn't think they'd just modify what the GC looked like, and the GC controller makes the photo downright supicious. But then again, I could be wrong. Imagine the irony in a console dedicated to innovation using the looks of another machine.
