Adult Swim News

Alrighty, I think it's about time I resume my role as the Adult Swim news updater on these forums. Got a couple of tidbits for you.

First off, Adult Swim will be going to Australia later this year. EDIT: Further research suggests it's already there, so maybe it's being expanded, maybe to the same 6 days a week schedual as the US? Who knows, except the person who wrote that card. Damn you Williams Street. Damn you for making misleading cards.

Secondly, I feel it is my duty to inform you that the new 5 AM timeslot will be switching gears in May. Instead of the nostalgia programming on now (which, in my opinion, is very cool anyway), they will swap that out in favor of Lupin III and Case Closed. I'm not sure if they have picked up any new episodes of either of these series, but signs point to no at this time. But, regardless, it's good to see that they're back on the air.

If you're interested in seeing the scheduling, a good listing can be found here.

Excellent, Case Closed deserved another run. Anybody actually going to up at 5 AM though?

Sandrock 04-19-2005 08:21 AM

I WILL! XD Case Closed Darn it I missed the last one ;.; the very last one and I wanted to see if I was right...dont ruin it for me. Lupin is good too a bit poor drawn [it was made back then] but good.

The words I am waiting for are: Cockpits! Boobytraps! Seriously, I can't wait for new Venture Brothers. The word on the street, Williams Street that is, is early summer. (correct me if I'm wrong) I also agree with the new 5 am slot. Lupin and Case Closed were my late night staple last summer, and it looks like it will happen again this summer.

Venture Bros. has been renewed. But, I believe that the next season won't be ready until early 2006, because, unlike a lot of Adult Swim originals, it's mostly hand-drawn (with some computer 'touch-ups' to the animation). Same reason it takes so long for new episodes of Harvey Birdman to be made (which is coming soon). Before that there will be, of course, other shows to watch. Let me show you this list I discovered on IGN to tel you what to look forward to.

Returning Shows:

Family Guy: Returns in June
Venture Bros.: Returns in early 2006 with 13 episodes
Tom Goes to the Mayor: Returns April 17th with 8 new episodes
Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law: New season starts July 24th
Aqua Teen Hunger Force: New season begins in December, 2005 that will bring the series to 75 episodes

New Series:

Boondocks: Premieres in October; 15 episodes ordered
American Dad: Premieres in May; first run on FOX with repeats on Adult Swim
Stroker & Hoop: Premieres September; 6 new episodes, followed by 6 more in November
Squidbillies: Premieres September. Maybe. 6 episodes
12oz Mouse: Premieres September; 6 episodes
Perfect Hair Forever: Premieres September; 6 episodes

Pilots - All currently scheduled to premiere in October:

Lucy: Daughter of the Devil
Moral Orel: Stop motion series from Dino Stamotopolis, a writer on Mr. Show and TV Funhouse.
Saul of the Mole People: Live action series
Minori-Team

So, you see, September, October, and November will be busy months.

Oh fujiko, how I have missed thee greatly...

Well, I'm happy about this, I watch adult swim every night.

lupin was a bad show, i dont like it very much. but case closed i like. i own the first dvd... and that is all of the dvds i own, but still. i am glad it is back on, or will soon be back on. one show they should never bring back is conquest. that show is odd. and the series has run out, plus the outfits well. it ran once that is enough

a show they need to start airing again is space ghost coast to coast. that show is very fun

Well, IGN was only half right. Heh. As a long-time member of the boards of [adult swim], I can say with confidence that none of those pilots have been mentioned. Furthermore, IGN completely left out Samaurai Champloo and Paranoia Agent. Gah.

Venture Brothers cheapens pretty quickly. And some of the jokes are pretty offensive to anyone who doesn't share the writer's viewpoints. While there are some very funny things (The Fantastic Four episode), it just seems to have a couple too many annoying parts.

Don't insult Lupin. Any show made in the 80's that's still being watched deserves lots of credit.

Noobity 04-20-2005 12:53 AM

well that's a silly way to look at things. That's like saying cave drawings deserve a lot of credit, we're still looking at them today, but certainly not because they were amazingly done. They're cave paintings.

Anyway, I dislike Venture bros profusely, and Case closed, and Lupin, as a matter of fact, scratch the venture bros and make that "anything done exclusively by adult swim".

However, if the boondocks is based on the comic strip with the quasi-anime style art involving all the black people, I'm going to be up specifically for that, I love the comic's humor.
