Anyone care for SNES music?
Hey guys. I just posted this on the Final Fantasy II/IV board at GameFAQs and I thought I'd share it with you people, too.
Okay guys... I'm blown away. Last night I found a site that totally owns vgmusic.com. Frankly, it owns any site that uses midi files. ESPECIALLY when you have to download them all separately instead of a complete, nice, neat, organized, prenamed and PERFECT sounding set of .SPC files. http://www.snesmusic.org/spcsets/ I don't know if any of you have heard of this site, or this type of sound file before, but basically .SPC files are ripped straight from the games themselves, so they sound perfect. Exactly like the originals. Plus, since they're ripped straight, you make sure that you get EVERY song. This includes such songs as the Main Theme with waves in the background as you travel toward Baron (supposedly) and Edward's Harp playing with crickets in the background as you fight the Water Hag. Final Fantasy IV's complete soundtrack, 59 perfect songs, is only a 170 kb download. This has them all sorted in the order that they appear in-game, and given the names that Nobuo intended. Mind you, to get them to work, you need Winamp (400 kb download? I think? If you don't already have it) and a quick and easy-to-install (just click the big shiny button that says "Install") patch (Very small download as well). If you're having trouble, you're not too bright. I mean... The instructions are on the site. They can also be easily converted into .WAV and .MP3 format. Sorry for going on and on about this like it's cooler than it actually is, but I just love it! I've already downloaded soundtracks from about 25 games, and put them all in their own playlists (about a 10-second process). So, anyway, I hope you enjoy this. So, there you have it! Try it out. It's pretty sweet. Lemme know if this is really as cool as I'm thinking it is. |
Try this link.
http://www.zophar.net/music.html They have not just SNES music but Gameboy, Genesis, PC Engine, NES, Playstation, Master System and Game Gear music as well. I'd say it's the largest archive of origina; VG music out there. |
Nice! In all my brief and scattered visits to zophar.net, i never noticed that they had video game music up for download. After trying a few of the SNES soundtracks there (first), I'm inclined to say that snesmusic.org has some of the soundtracks laid out a little better, though...
HOWEVER, they didn't have the infamous Lemmings 2 soundtrack! (along with those of hundreds of other games from the same and other systems) In conclusion... Thanks lymerion! Time to get to downloading, again! *looks up Final Fantasy I, II and III soundtracks* |
SPC files = kick ass. Original music, straight from the games. If I had to sit through one more crappy MIDI Dancing Mad, I would have gone on a smite-fest. Plus, with the Winamp patch, they can actually be converted into the types of files you can stick into other games. Don't have Winamp? There are a number of specialized SPC players out there. Zophar's ZDSPC is the leader in this market, more than likely because it's right there with the music.

SPC's = 10 pounds of kickass in a 5 pound bag

Any mp3s of songs...
Don't know if Roxio can play SPC files... |
I've been linking to that site for months, and does anyone give me any recognition for it?
I have them all downloaded, A gig of pure musical Bliss... it's like 4 days straight of music. |
On my kickass synth, good MIDI is better than anything. ;)
EDIT: Though I'll admit, bad MIDI is pure unadulterated torture. |
the Final Fantasy battle themes sound so empty without the sounds of menu selecting and attacks
