For all you Firefly fans:

yeah, this movie's gonna rock pretty hard. and like the tv series, probably only thirteen people are going to see it. thoughts?

...feh?

Reminds me of Starscape and Battlestar Galactica (neither of which I like). I never saw Firefly, so I can't make any connections or comparisons. It just looks really blah to me.

I saw that Tycho of Penny Arcade mentioned the same thing:

I don't know if I have ever been more excited in my entire life.
Whatever, doesn't look like anything big to me.

Don't worry, smart people like it.

<obligatory joke tag>

Battlestar Galactica looked sweet, but my schedule hasn't allowed me to see an episode yet. I've seen smatterings of Farscape, but again, scheduling conflicts (although it seems like just about the best sci-fi show in a while). Firefly, while I never got into the show, captivated me right before it got cancelled, so I am looking forward to the movie.

well, i gues you had to have been there. was a series on Fox for about seven episodes before it got canceled. was amazingly good, but no one watched it.

Osterbaum 04-27-2005 02:15 PM

There were 14 episodes total. You can watch all on the DVD.

Also: Joss Whedon posted some interesting info on the Browncoats website. There are some US cities that will have theaters showing the movie in advance as an unfinished version of some sort. All of these shows seem to be sold out though.

Also according to the forums all responses to the trailer have been good from both fans and "new recruits".

I was always interested in Firefly, but never got the chance to watch it.
Someone compared one of my Star-Trek saving ideas to a re-hashed Firefly, and that made me all the more curious.

Do you guys think the movie will be a good introduction, or should I try and rent the Series on DVD first?

Illuminatus 04-30-2005 01:43 PM

Firefly was such a good series. That's, of course, why they canceled it. Sci-fi at it's finest.

you might wanna watch the tv series first. from the few things i've heard about the movie, its gonna pick up right where the series left off (it didn't really have a proper ending, the show just kind of stopped).

Osterbaum 05-01-2005 05:14 AM

The movie is gonna tell all the stories again so people who did not watch the series can understand the plot. It's like Joss Whedon said that he didn't want the movie to be like: "Here's the movie. Of the TV show. That you didn't watch."

And the movie pics up from half a year after "Objects in Space".

I strongly recomend wathcing the series first. It's a great series and you'll want to watch it before the movie, rather than after.

I'm with Tycho about getting a Bat'leth and sticking it to people who dare spoil parts of the movie.

I'll second Osterbaums, "watch the show first," because the movie will probably tie up, or expand a bit of the storyline. Although half of the movie, or atleast the first half hour will be a re-introduction of the universe.
