"A Sword of Ice and Fire" -- George RR Martin

Anybody ever read these books? I'm on the second one, and they're very good.

Is that that king arthur series with the wierd rock? I read the first one, couldn't get the second.

Wjolf 05-08-2005 07:38 PM

Yeah, I read that series. They were pretty good, for what they were.

Raiden 05-10-2005 08:48 AM

Never really heard about them. Is that the series that someone tried to make a 3D movie of?

If it is, then I hate it.

A song of ice and fire is pretty good for what they were?

I don't think you read the same series for a couple of reasons:first the series isn't over and it is on an epic scale. IMO they are the best fantasy books to come along since LOTR. Note don't start reading them if don't have a lot of time to burn. And it is frustrating to wait for the next book to come out. But other then that I would recommend this books to anyone over the age of sixteen.

And no, nobody has tried to make of movie of A Song of Ice and Fire.

I really disagree. The books by Terry Goodkind (sorry about the wrong name), starting with Wizard's First Rule are the best books out there. The series sword of ice and fire was good so far, but I have seen some that beat it out.

The first book was called A Game of Thrones... the series is call A Song of Ice and Fire.

I liked the first two books in the Wheel Time but after that they went downhill. They just kept adding characters and storylines and very little is resolved. And many of the added characters are very similar to existing characters.

If you have really read that book and say that Wheel of Time better, I would have to say I disagreed strongly. I seriously question your appreciation of good books.

The Sword of Truth series is what I was referring to, I was mixed up on the names. The Wheel of Time series wasn't too bad, but you are right, A Song of Ice and Fire is a better set of books so far. And as I said, for what they were, meaning as far as they have come. I wasn't meaning that the books were through, but what has been written, that I have read, were alright. Just not the best in my opinion.

I like the sword of truth books but the they have gotten stale. Terry Goodkind has difficulty coming up with any plot device other then imprisonment or kidnapping.

I've only read to book five, and I can see where you're coming from. But Wizards First Rule was probably the best fantasy book I've read since Lord of the Rings, and Terry will always hold a special place in my heart, despite all the boring political manuevering and social commentary in the book I'm currently reading.
