Devil May Cry 3
Hey guys, I need a little help. I've just recieved some cash for my birthday (oh yeah, birthday money!!), and, being the freaky woman that I am, I have decided to blow a large portion of it on video games.
But I need your help, O Fellow Gamers. I'm considering getting Devil May Cry 3, but I want to know if it rocks (like DMC1) or sucks (like DMC2). Does anyone have this game? Does it rock or suck? Or... in between... or something..? Please help me before I waste my hard-earned (??) gil. [Jedi Mindtrick] YOU WILL TELL ME ABOUT DMC3, FOR I AM MAUVE MAGE AND I COMMAND IT. [/Jedi Mindtrick] |
Get. The. Game.
Now. Seriously, though, DMC 3 is an excellent game, but hard as all get out. If you don't mind a challenge, then go ahead and get it. For past thoughts on DMC 3, I refer you to this thread.. It was started back when the game first came out, and I had to dig back a few pages to find it. Overall, if you liked the first DMC 1, I think you'll enjoy this one as well. But, and I say this because I am a pansy and like to warn people of stuff like this: THE GAME IS HARD!. It is still kicking my butt, even on easy. |
Thanks, Toastburner! I'm feeling a little more eager to blow my birthday cash on games now. And thanks for directing me to the other page. Do I need to erase this thread, since a DMC3 thread already exists?
Oh, and that page you gave me has shown me a brand new word which I shall use and treasure forever.... Quote:

If you feel the need to talk about DMC3 and all of it's awesomeness, feel free to drop by again. It pwnz0rz to no endless degree and kicks ass.

What's the storyline like? Is it good like DMC1 (i.e. actual plot), or is it just "run around and kill stuff 'cuz it moves and it's supposedly evil" like in DMC2? Don't get me wrong; I liked the battle system in 2. I actually got better combos in that one than in 1. But it was severely lacking in the "What's the Point" category.

If you're expecting some FF storyline it'll disappoint you, but if you want to know (a) What Dante did before he got a real shirt (b) How Dante got his demon groove on, the game is for you. Heck, even if you just wanted to know how Dante would react while freefalling down a demonic tower being attacked by bats made of blood, the game is for you. Or if you just wanted a good game, the game is for you. DMC3 officialy earns the "Jak II-esque enraging difficulty that you absolutely can't quit". Also, whoever made Agni & Rudra needs to have two strong-men beat him down with bats. |

Unless of course you're talking about them as characters, and even then I must defend them. They're clueless! It makes for a great comedic scene. Anyway, yeah, get the game. Best one out of all three of them. Very simple, very smooth, very much worth the $50 (Especially since you can play missions over. Very handy for orb farming, and it makes it a lot easier to see certain cutscenes). |

Their weapons rocking is only some slight repayment. So, what was your guys favorite cutscene? Mine has to be the tower freefall. I believe the cap on badassness is when you can throw a sword straight down, impale a dozen blood bird things, then shoot the sword so that it burns up and kills all the bird things. Kickass. |

Also, that disk attack is completely avoidable. Just remember: Trickster owns. Also, a dash/double dash/triple dash linked to a stinger going the opposite direction works wonders. Or a double jump to sky shot to horizontal wall hike. Also, as to the story: It makes DMC1 look pointless. Seriously. It's got great cut scenes, incredible characters, and a story that's actually emmersing. Not quite to FF standards, but it makes up for that by having a more 'fluid' story telling system, in that CG battles more greatly resemble real battles and it makes it all just feel more like you're playing the story than you're playing a game to get to a story. And the ending reveals a lot about Dante and Vergil. Especially if you manage get the special on the credits (kill 100 enemies. Tip: Kalina Ann). Oh yah, and the battle system/play controls here? Most fucking beautiful and fluid thing I have ever had the, orgasmic, pleasure of experiencing. There are a total of six styles, 4 of which are available from the get go. They include: Trickster (dashing/jumping/teleportation techniques to avoid attacks and befuddle enemies), Swordmaster (extra damage and attacks on all weapons), Gunslinger (kick ass special moves with guns [gun stinger? Twosome time? Wild Stomp? Fire Rain (I think that's what it's called when he jumps and rains bullets with E&I)?]) Royal Guard (block enemy attacks, taking no damage [with proper timing] and build up a charge allowing you to deal back all the damage you WOULD have received in one blow, also a technique to change would be damage into health), and the two special ones you unlock later in the game. Each of the first four styles have three levels you improve it through by killing enemies while using that style, which unlock new techniques in that style... and every technique can be built into combos seamlessly, for the most part (dance macabre not so much... but it's every damn sword move ever linked into a combo for you, already...) They're all so easy to use once you get used to the controls, which should take maybe two or three stages. I could talk forever about how fun combat is... but I won't. I could also talk forever about how kick ass the CG scenes are... but, again, I won't. |
