Ask and you shall receive. I agree it is a dick move. Really, what I most question is why the license wasn't honored from the previous rights-holder, despite its revolutionary status, when Activision likely has no plans for the series due to the poor market for the genre at the moment. Actually, scratch that, I wonder what the fuck kind of legal precedent allows Activision to close the forums.

To put it this way, if Activision didn't tell the team to delete all resources, I think the next step would be to change out the references to King's Quest and use those 8 years of work to simply build an amazing original title. Not throwing the baby out with the bath water and all. The references to the series are really all Activision has to go on, and with how loosely-related the KQ games are, there's not much reason to think that they re-tread enough old ground to prevent the project from being salvaged. And if they did, well, fuck them. You shouldn't be making a totally new engine just to wank off all the stuff the series has already done. It makes for a sucky game.

Besides, I have a personal bias against King Graham for being such a skinny little wafer that he can't so much as trip over a rock without dying. The Sierra style of punishing the player for exploration really put me out as a kid when Lucas Arts made for such an enjoyable competitor. Let some other poor sap fall into a river for trying to take a drink and drown like an ass for a change. If you're going to earn players' ire, you may as well do it on your own merits, rather than rely on 20 years of built-in hatred.



Translation: I think it was a total dick move of Activision to pull this because the project had already gotten advance permission, but I also happen to hate King's Quest, so if they make it into an original title, I will be more likely to play it and then judge it based on its own merits.



Edit: I bet nobody was expecting that one, were they?
