Arcanum would dive into a lake to save a drowning girl from a sinking car, without even stopping to think about how dangerous it was. Right well I bought the game yesterday and I'm so glad that I did. I've also discovered that Hardcore mode is the best thing ever. Instead of only being able to encounter 17 events (I think that's how many is in the normal adventure mode, I counted twice but I forget if they were both 17) you get to explore almost every single planet. I succumbed to my illness when I went to the second last planet I had to explore.

My hardcore adventure was so awesome too. It was a little hard starting out, and I had to restart a few times within the first two planets 'cause I would get attacked by pirates or assassins and I would lose a Destroyer, thus crippling me for the rest of my journey if I didn't get a ship really soon.

But by about half way through of it I had a sweet flotilla, consisting of two destroyers, a dreadnought, a beam gunship, a torpedo gunship, and a battleship. Nothing stood a chance against me.

EDIT -- Also, I'm ranked 109th in regular Adventure and 22nd in Hardcore, under the name Mike. What about you guys?

Honestly, manual control is the way to go, especially if you're moving below or above the opponent, which is like 90% of the time. I found that using the basic orientation would screw me over more often than a manual orientation.

I also got given a torpedo ship (I think that's what it was called) by the Crisium. Not as large as the beam ship, but impressive none the less.
That's what I love about the dreadnought though, because with that large underside comes a large topside. Careful use of the manual control can ensure that no missiles will hit your bottom or back, and gratuitous use of the flank order will get it into a position where you can take out the enemy's heavier ships, or play decoy for their destroyers.

Also I love the torpedo gunship. Mainly because at the start of any combat scenario, my first move is to either send the torpedo ship straight up and slightly forward (if the enemy started above me) or straight down and slightly forward (if the enemy started below me) while firing away. Normally that first move doesn't do anything, but it puts the ship in a perfect position to attack the other ships' weak spots as the move down/up at my flotilla.
