The school doesn't particularly care if the students aren't the same gender when they room together, so if you
want to, you can.
They just make you sign a waver clearing them of any possible legal responsibilities if
something happens. But every student has to sign those forms anyway, so that's not a big deal. Its just common sense when the school contains possibly dangerous things, really.

I think it falls into useless or overpowered territory, which is unfortunate since it is a nicely thematic ability. What effect did you imagine it would have? Is it supposed to be a touch based or a ranged curse?
But since your character's so closely related to parahumans, perhaps you could fill that slot with a skill that works as a reference to their training? I mean, if Sean's dad hasn't made an effort to hide it from him, its possible that Sean's picked up a trick from him or something.
Oh, and in case my first post gave you guys the wrong idea, you don't
need to pick an ability from that list.
