On Sluggy: What if Riff pulled the old Crono clone? Alternate Riff's got time travelling teleports. What if he swapped vegetable Zoe with past Zoe right before the fire hit and the emergency DFA went off? The only real opportunity for paradox would be with the cursed necklace, and that could probably be replaced with a convincing fake. Granted, that means vegetable Zoe is living in a horrifying time loop, but she's honest-to-god basically a corpse as it is. Seems like it'd be making the best of a bad situation to me.
