The writing in Skyrim was a let down. The storylines were epic, but short, and by the end I never felt I deserved the reward I got for about half of them. Like the Mages one. Fun quest line! Did not make me the most qualified mage in the land, or even the school. The Thieves guild one was great until you had to, y'know, sell your soul, and that was never made a big deal of ever. Companions might have been ok, but frankly they were so boring and generic I never went that deep into the story line.
Don't even get me started on the Blades 'choice' thing. Actually Skyrim fell short a lot in the choice department, which is just a shame. I'm looking forward to the mods.
I don't recall Oblivion well enough to say it was better though. I enjoyed it at the time, but that was ages ago and I'll get nostalgic. Skyrim was prettier for sure though!
