If it's any consolation, I went to try it myself but am seriously put off by the level of... I guess 'professionalism' is how to describe it.

The forums link on their site 404s.

Patching is a pain in the ass. It may not apply for versions prior to Windows 7, or other operating systems (not sure if this is a Windows only game), but pretty much every 10 seconds for about 30 minutes [exaggeration may apply] it had to ask for permission to modify the patcher, after downloading single file. It would patch, then download another file, then ask permission again. Would be nice if the beta client was a couple more versions up to date, or if it could "check ahead" based on the current version, and download all updates and apply them successively, rather than piecemeal.

I finally get into the game and find out... I can't play anyway:

I am from North America region. Why can't i log in?

Newly registered accounts from North American players are currently not able to login. However, players who participated in the closed beta will be able to play on the EU servers.
[Lower case theirs]. This question is not on the website - or at least not part of the FAQ there, nor was there any kind of timeline regarding beta participation that I could see. This answer was only available via the in-game support FAQ after you download the client, patch, and start the game.

I wash my hands of this. I was keen to try a modern space-fighter sim, but this sort of thing rubs me the wrong way. It doesn't bode well for long term support.

Maybe I'll forget about it and try again in a few months.
